HARDWICK'S PAPER GIVES
~ EEMIFINAL ANNOUNCEMENT
. OF THE BREASK.
TTLANTA, Ga.,, August 24—
There is 0 much rumor and gossip
about the Holder campaign organ
ization parting ways with Commis--
sioner of Agriculture J. J. Brown, it
is beginning not only to atttract at
tention. but among some of Mr.
- Brown’s own friends is beginning to
be taken for granted.
[ The talk was given quite an im-
E petus Friday, when former Governor
Thomas W. Hardwick was here. In
’ fact, there was a report which ap
peared to have considerable weicht
that Mr. Hardwick had advised M.
Holder’s folks to throw Commission
er Brown overboard and get rid of
a ‘ handicap.
Today in volitical cireles, there
was rather liberal ~ pa.s'..-'infi from
hand to hand of the edition of Mr.
Hardwick’s parer, the Weekly
Courier-Herald of Dublin. which has
just been received, in which Mr.
Hardwick, over his signature savs:
“Holder is neither for nor against
Brown or any other candidate, tor
Commissioner of Agriculture or
any other office. Holder is toting hic

THE CORDELE DISPATCH
Whether the Richland tire you seleet is the oversize Heavy
Car Type Cord, the Standavrd Cord, or the Fabrie, you can
depend on obtaining super-satisfactory service,
Richland balanced construcetion insures that.
The tread, cushion, fabrie, side walls and beads of this rug
ged, husky tirve all wear in unison. No part weakens prema
turely.
As a result, Richland users enjoy a cost per mile of service
that has no parallel in the tire industry., That is the reason
for the commonly heard expression **lt’s hard to scll a Rich
land user any other tive.”
JEAL(WUSY THEORY HFLD IN
FATAL SHOOTING OF TWO
CLARINDA, lowa, August 24—
(P)-—A new thecory that jealousy
may have been the eause of the
fatal shootinig of Miss Elsie Benge,
formerly of Maryville, M 0.,, and
Thomas . Anderson. a iraveling
salesman, of Council Bluffs, was ad
vauced today.
Perosns at a cafe of which the girl
was the proprietor, said she had
been paying attention to other men,
and it is the theory of county offi
cers that Anderson shot her oapd
himself after a quarrel. Their bodies
were found yesterday in a corn ficld
A bill of sale found in the girl’s
vocketbook indicated Anderson had
bought the cafe and county authori
ties expressed the belief that he had
purchased it for her.

SICKNESS IS DECLARED TO BE
COSTING PEOPLE MORE THAN
TWO BILLION ANNUALLY.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass., Ausust
24—(P)—Sickness costs the people
of the United States more then two
billion dollars a year in lost wages
and medical bills, and premature
death a sum equally large, the In
stitute of Politics was informed to
day by Louis I. Dublin, Ph. D., sta
tistician of the Metropolitan Life
Insurance Company.
Much of this loss, he asserted could
be prevented if cuificient money
were properly spent in protecting
community health and educating the
people in the right way of living.
“At the wrescat time,” he said,
“less than 50 cents per capita, or
about $60.0000.000 are expended
each year on public health work., on
ly a part of which amount is direct
od {0 the prevention of diseasc.
This is altogether inadequate.
“Expert opinion is that an expen
diture of $2 per capita wisely di
rected for health education would re
duce the annual death rate two
points per one thousand and corre
spondingly increase the expectation
of life possibly five full years., The
value of an added year of life is
estimated at $l,OOO at least. The ad
dition of five years to the length of
life of the 117,0900,0000 American
would add $600.000,00 to the value
of living capital of the United
States.”
Dr. Dublin said the best expecta
tions of life are found in New Zeal
and. The average length of life is
over 62 years there and only a lit:
tle less in Australia. The Scandi
navian countries, Denmark, Norway
and Sweden, have conditions very
much like those in the United States
perbaps even a shade better, The ex-i
pectation of life at birth is around
58 years in those three countrics.
England falls a little below the
United States with an average of
53 years, i RE 'E&‘fl
