an inquest would not be held into
tthe death of Rev. Jesse I Love
Valdosta, Ga., evangelist who died
| here yesterday after being serucls‘
~down by an automotile driven by
' Richard Scegar.
Coroner Cutler expressed the
opinion that Rev. Love’s physical
| condition was largely responsible
for his death and that the accident
l was unavoidable.

(#)—W. R. Leffler, 31, was held
l in the county jail here today await
' ing the outeome of an investigation
of the clubbing to death last night
‘uf his brother-in-law, the Rev. Ed
ward Gillum, 40-year-old evangelist.
No charge has been filed against
Leffler pending a coroner's inquest.
The killing is said to have been
the oulgrowth of a long standing
altereation over Leffler’s wife.
Leffler, who said he had warned
I Giillum several times to stay away
| from his wife, went home last night
and found the minister there. B 2
gaid Gillum reached toward his hip
pocket as if to draw a gun.
‘ Struck Over Head
y Leifler seized an Indian club and
ls;tmck his brother-in-law over the
Ilz(:ud. crushing his skull. He died
shortly aflterward.
l “I didn’t intend to kill him,” Leff-
Uler said today; “but I thought he
i was going to kill me and I acted in
defense of my self and my home.”
The Rev. Mr. Gillum had conduct
ed revival mectines in Missouri for

September 13, has been granted by
the District of Columbia commis
¢ioners to the Ku Klux Klan.
Application for the permit brought
protests from negro organizations,
; while groups opposed to the Klan’s
principles and activitics made no
offort to block the permit. The or
der plans to conduct a demonstra
tion cimilar to one staged last year.
