—Tom Johngon, negro in jail here
for the last few months under sen
tence o i{death for the murder of
Dessie Stone a negro woman, last
April, comc near committing suicide
this mbrning by slashing his throat

had procured in his cell in some un
explained way.

Johnson': cell about 10 o‘clock this
morning to take him from the cell
and carty him to Milledgeville,
where he is to be electrocuted on
Septembor 24. His condition s erit
call and dcetors are workng hard to
save him.
Johnzon had declared that he
would never be electrocuted.

man Joha T. Hahn, of the Portage
Parkforce, in taking office, had
sworn o protect the public and was
acceptinr & salary from 'the public
for his scrvice, Today, however, he
was sentenced to 60 days in the
house of correction, stripped of his
star and' vniform and degraded be
fore tha force for contributing to
the delinquency of a girl whose
name was kept out of the record.
At the same time Policeman Al
bert Heuntze also fo the Portage
force wag¢ held to the grand jury un
der heavy hond on a statutory charge
Evidence was introduced to show
that on the night of July 23, the
two polizemen encountered two girls
in the purk on their way home. The
policemen would not permit them to
go home, tut followed them and
ériminally lassaalted both of them.
Miss Bayne obtaining custody of
their six-year-old son on an agree
ment tiatl he must not appear on
