*“THE UPHILL CLIMB
Uphill, and on through'the murk and
mire; '
I'orward still, without pause or rest,
‘Though the brain’ grow dizzy and the
stout limbs tire,
And doubt like a cancer grows in the
breast. :
For thb.uds hang low and the sleet
fiaws blind us
And the dim trail winds over rock
- and morass. - Y !
With only the fog before—behind us
What wonder at last if we miss the
- pass?
Bear on! Bear on! Let your hcart‘t!
not falter.
Draw courage closer to fend the
chill,
Let the drones of the valley quib
ble and falter—
There is no space here for the lag
gard will. {
- 3 T ‘"w..‘.‘mf?f
For the road is cver 4 long and dim
one .
To any goal that.is worth the quest;
And knowing the fight fva§ 4 stemn
and grim one gAL
But lgnds the trifi_n'mh a truer zest!
And the night too deep for a star to
plumb it,
Must - yield at length to a mightier
dawn; ’
And the climber never can miss the
summit _
If he has the strength to go up and
on!

'FUNERAL OF LITTLE
' FRANCES PATE FRIDAY
By Mrs. Mary E. Tayior
Friday afternoon, a largce con
course of relatives and friends age
sembled at the residence of Mr., C.
R. Bulloch, in attendance upon the
funeral services of Frances, second
| daughter of Mr. and Mys, Cecil Pate
l which were conducted by the Rev. J.
B. Johnstone,
l' Lingering beside the heautiful
‘snowx casket, where it scemed the
precious baby girl had but jusgt fallen
asleep, clasping a waxen rose hud,
surrounded by many lovely flowers,
the comforting thought came that
the passing of little Frances was but
the plucking of a lovely rosebud from
the home garden] and transplanting
it to a balmier clime, there to un
fold in heavenly beauty.
Composing a quartette, Messrs R.
E. Harris, T. J. Durrett and Mes
dames O. T. Gower, and T. M
Coker sang impressively: “Asleep In
Jesus” and “God Will Take Care Of
You”
The remains were laid to rest at
Ebenezer, ;
