' THE ARTIST OF THE NIGHT
';l'here is an artist of the night
Who paints the hills with green
A'nd streaks with colors of delight
The smiling vales between;
And then with skill almost divine
'i‘o greet the waking morn;
He plants the sun rays in the pine
And dewdrops on the thorn.
With beauty®rom some unknown
~ clime
u-gnd never failing powers:
He marks the mountain peaks sub
lime,
And loveh‘r wildweod flowers:
Then like the pageart c¢f a dream
fln perfect mastery;
His art adorns each wandering
stream _ .
That singin}; seeks the sea.
Wlth loveliness beyond compare
With charm no equal knows;
The beauty that the meadows wear
His fayltless gifts disclose;
'fhe rocks in all their rugged grace
fiis native wonders bear;
Hls touch of winding landscapes
trace s it
- And forests wild and fair.
