Christmas Greetings
. b i Christmas, 1926.
To Our Friends:— ®Fmes ¥
: The Cornish coal miners in England have a quaint and beautiful super
stition— ’
They will not work in the mines on Christmas Eve because they sincerely
believe that faries meet at, the bottom of the shaft to celebrate the birth of
Christ. Many a grizzled old Cornishman will tell you that he has heard the
most beautiful music coming up 'f;'om the mix\u_e pits on Christmas Eve.
- What a wonderful thing' it is to have a profound :belief in something!
Christmas as an institution is something we all. believe ig, net because we are
this, or that, or the other, bit because we are human, ;:im .though grown up,
still children. Belief in Christmas is the one childhood memory that we refuso
to surrender. As children, the Christmas spirit quickened our love for Dad,
Mother, sister, brother, aunts, uncles, neighbors and friends. The very atmos

THE CORDELE DISPATCH
phere was charged with love, and we learned to love everyone around us at
Christmag time. : >
We cling to old traditions, so we ‘still love Christmas. Once again our
hearts are warmed toward our old-time friends and relatives. The memory of
them—though some Tay be gone—is mingled with the fragrance of balsam,
holly and mistletoe. i 1
We do not like to think of being forgotten. And so, our friends, we sug
gest a trade between you and us this Christmas Eve. ‘Round about eleven
o'clock, after the kiddies’ stockings are filled and all the other presents care
fully arranged, we will have a moment of satisfaction. Then, you think of us
ang we will think of you and we each will wish the other a Merry Christmas,
and the best all 'round year we have ever enjoyed.

RADCLIFFE GIRLS USC TOES |
TO PEN CHRISTMAS CARDS i
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., December 23‘
—(#)—Two hundred givl freshmen
at Radcliffe College struggled foday
to pen dainty Christmas greetingh
[with dainty toes. It was generally
conceded, however, that the finished
‘cards failed to approach in dainti-l
ness the feet that inscribed them.
The greetings were not vcluz:tary‘
—at least in form, In fact the gym
nasium cffice came out flatfootéd
this season for “Christmas greetings
that are different.
* All freshmen are required to take
“gym” and all freshmen were re
'quired to hand in Christmas greet
" ings written with their toes. So there |
was nothing to do but to toe the]
" mark.
It was explained the request was?
‘not to give the studenis an oppor
tunity tc dsiplay their versatility.
The real reason for the request was
~that this form of toe exercise is the
most effective for developing and
correcting the arch. The honor sys
tem prevailed and most of the greet
ings were written in the seclusion of
the girls rooms.
