Only Matrimonial Prize Clean, Honest American Husband, Says Dorothy Dix. By DOROTHY DIX. l.ady Decies, she that was Vivien Gould, who is traveling in the West with her titled husband, said in a recent interview: “English women and girls do not wish to see their great matrimonial prizes carried off by their smarter and better-dressed Yankee sisters, so they have learned to dress from styles worn by American girls and-women. “Before the invasion of the Ameri can became such an increasing and ever-present danger, English women were very dowdy in their attire, but they are remedying that as rapidly as possible.” Undoubtedly Lady Decies is quite correct in saying that English women do not wish to see their “matrimonial prizes” captured by American girls. England has an excess of female pop uwlation of some three milllon, and THE GEORGIAN'’S NEWS BRIEFS nowhere else in the world is the hus band hunt so strenuous as there. All Seek Dgllars. Of course whnat constitutes a mat rimonial prize is a matter of taste, but it is interesting in this connec tion to consider some of the bargains our American millionairesses have bought with their fortunes. For it must be borne in mind that no mat ter how pretty, how intelligent, how cultivated, how sweet and lovely an American girl may be, she never cap tures the fancy of a titled foreigner uvnless she is enormously wealthy. Ap parently, the titled foreigner is like the witch of tradition, He can only be hit with a silver bullet. Among the “matrimonial” prizes that have been captured by American heiresses, the head prize was un doubtedly Count Boni de Castellane, who was secured by Miss Anna Gould, and who spent her money on other women, who struck her, and abused her so that she was forced to divorce him. Miss Gould seems, however, to be one of the people who do not learn wisdom from experience, and she is now engaged in the pleas ant pursuit of paying off the debts of another titled matrimonial prize, the Duke of Sagan. The Duke of Marlborough. Lovely and great-hearted Consuelo Vanderbilt captured another “matri- Mrs. Wilson Has Bad Fall in White House WASHINGTON, March 4.—Mrs. Wilson, the President's wife, suffered a bad fall in the White House on Friday last. The injuries were not at all serious, but the resulting shock had a troublesome effect, Dr, Grayson has been in attendance., It was nec essary for Mrs. Wilson to forego sev eral imporiant social engagements, pains being taken not to alarm the country unnecessarily by stating the real reason, & SULZER PROBER SUED. NEW YORK, March 4.-—John A. Hen. nessy, former Governor Sulzer's prober, was sued for $50,000 on a charge of libel by Henry A. Rubino, counsel to the Warner-Quinlan Company, to-day. The complaint alleges that Hennessy ac cused Rubino of paying $20,000 to John H, Delaney to have a specification for road-making changed in the interest of his company. monial prize,” the Duke of Marlbor ough, who ill-treated her, who flaunted his lady loves in her face, who squan dered her money and forced her to separate from him. Alice Thaw captured another “mat rimonial prize,” the Karl of Yar mouth, who, after bargaining with her for an exfbrtionate price for marry ing her, held up the wedding at the church until he could get more money out of her and then deserted her as soon as he had taken her to England,! leaving her a forlorn little bride in u} moldy old castle. | Helen Morton traded off a good parti of her six million dollars for another “matrimonial prize,” the Duc de \'a“ lencay, who insulted her immediately after the wedding, who deserted her and whose marriage was annulled within a few months. Here is a list of some of the other once got possession of his wife's good American dollars, treated her worse than he would a dog. The only matrimonial prize is a clean, honest American husband, who does not demand that a girl's father shall pay his debts before he marries her, or require a million or two dol lars to be settled upon him before he will condescend to accompany her to the altar.
