Camden County deputies re
sponding to a loud music com
plaint in the wee hours of Jan. 1
found more than expected.
The call ended with three peo
ple being arrested for manufactur
ing methamphetamine and
Georgia Bureau of Investigation
agents cleaning up a meth lab at a
U.S. Highway 17 residence.
Johnathon Lee Solis, 25, Steven
Joseph Furstenberg, 35, and Mary
Francine Furstenberg, 30, all of
Woodbine were each charged with
one felony count of manufacturing
meth. All three remained in cus
tody as of Thursday.
“While responding to the loud
music call, the deputies attempted
to make contact with Solis, whom
they believed had felony warrants
pending,” Deputy William Terrell
said. “He fled. In trying to find
him, they could smell the meth lab
and made the discovery.”
Deputies obtained a search war
rant for 12127 U.S. Highway 17 in
Woodbine and advised GBI that
the residence was a meth lab, ac
cording to the incident report.
GBI agents located precursors
and items used to manufacture
meth, including a gallon of camp
fuel, a two-burner range, chemi
cals suspected to be ammonium ni
trate, sodium hydroxide, murtatic
acid; and a Claritin D box with
three empty blister packs.

During his first day in office,
Camden County Sheriff Jim
Proctor made a few personnel
changes.
He placed Maj. Chuck Byerly,
formerly a captain and the jail ad
ministrator, in
the position
of chief
deputy. Barry
Johnson, who
was the chief
deputy, is now
in charge of
court security.
Maj. Rob
Mastroianni, a new hire, is now
the jail administrator. Mas
troianni worked for Proctor when
he served as jail administrator
under former Sheriff Bill Smith.
Capt. Larry Bruce will now
lead the patrol division. Bruce,
who has been with CCSO since
September 2010, was the patrol
commander for the Brunswick
Police Department and has
decades of experience in law en
forcement that Proctor wanted to
take advantage of, CCSO Deputy
William Terrell said.

Volunteers with the
American Red Cross are
working to help a St. Marys
family that lost its home in a
late-night fire.
The blaze ignited inside
the family’s Ryan Drive
rental home around 9 p.m.
Tuesday, leaving a woman,
her daughter and her 10-
month-old granddaughter
homeless, according to a
Red Cross news release.
The woman was home
alone when she began to
smell smoke, the release
states. After determining the
smoke was coming from un
derneath the mobile home,
the woman went outside and
called the fire department
from her cell phone.
Firefighters contained the
flames in about 20 minutes,
St. Marys Fire Chief Robby
Horton said.
No one was injured in the
incident, but fire, smoke and
water damage made the
home uninhabitable.
Red Cross supervisor
Kathie Perkins arrived on
scene shortly after being no
tified at about 4 a.m. The
Red Cross provided a hotel
room nearby and funds for
food, clothing and winter
coats as well as a temporary
storage unit.
