Obituaries
Allen Harrelson
HARRELSON — Allen Har
relson, 77, of St. Marys passed
away peacefully, Saturday, Jan.
26, 2013, at his residence sur
rounded by his family.
Born Aug. 27, 1935, in Con
way, S.C., he was the son of the
late Jeff and Leila Mae Harrel
son. He was also preceded in
death by his wife, Mary Lou Har
relson, sister, Geneva Cook and
brother, Jimmy Harrelson.
Mr. Harrelson had been a res
ident of Camden County since
1961 and was retired from
Gilman Paper Company with
more than 30 years of service.
He was awarded the Silver
Beaver Award with the Boy
Scouts of America, and was an
avid golfer for many years, hold
ing numerous tournament titles.
He was a charter member of
Friendship Baptist Church of
Kingsland, and a member of the
Westside Baptist Church in St.
Marys, where he served as
adult Sunday school teacher
and choir director. From his fam
ily and many friends, it has been
said, “He was a legend in his
own time.”
Funeral services will be held
at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 30, from
Westside Baptist Church with
Pastor Gregg Gardell and Pas
tor Bob Hughes officiating. In
terment will follow at Oak Grove
Cemetery. Visitation was held 6
to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Al
lison Memorial Chapel in St.
Marys.
Pallbearers were Chad Gay,
Trey Britt, Todd Gay, Allen Britt,
Evan Britt, Zayne Harrelson,
James Riendeau and Dean Bal
lard. Honorary pallbearers were
retirees of Gilman Paper Com
pany.
Survivors include three
daughters, Dottie Gay of St.
Marys, Pam Tanchon (Jeff) of
Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and
Melanie Britt (Joey) of St. Marys;
son, Jeffery Harrelson (Vonice
Leigh) of Woodbine; two broth
ers, Troy Harrelson of St. Marys
and Larry Harrelson (Nancy) of
Florence, S.C.; two sisters,
Shirley Kaiser (Jim), and Debbie
Pearson of St. Marys; 10 grand
children; 10 great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorial
contributions in memory of Allen
Harrelson be made to Heartland
Hospice, 664 Scranton Road,
Brunswick, GA 31520, or the
Boy Scouts of America, at
scouting.org.

Lucy Ricketson Ferguson

McLAUCHLAN — Lucy
Ricketson Ferguson
McLauchlan of Fernandina
Beach, Fla., passed away
Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at
Community Hospice of North
east Florida with family at her
side.
Daughter of Robert Weeks
Ferguson and Lucy Carnegie
Ricketson Ferguson, Lucy,
known as “Cindy” to her fam
ily and friends, was born in
New Bedford, Mass., on Aug.
18, 1931.
She was raised with her
two brothers and sister at
Greyfield on Cumberland Is
land and in the family home,
Ricketson’s Point in South
Dartmouth, Mass. She was in
the 81st year of her life when
she passed away.
Cindy attended the
Wheeler School in Provi
dence, R.I., and later at
tended school in Florence,
Italy. In her earlier life, Cindy
lived in various cities in the
Northeast, including New York
and Boston, settling in
Gloucester, Mass., for almost
20 years.
In 1968, she moved back to
Cumberland Island, where
she and her husband built
their home, Mole’s End, a
name taken from her favorite
childhood book, “Wind in the
Willows.” In later life, Cindy
moved permanently to Fer
nandina Beach, where she
was living up until the time of
her passing.
Cindy was always artistic
and her creations were born
from a love of natural history.
Much of her artwork origi
nated with, or was inspired by
things “found.”
She was a wife, mother,
grandmother, loving aunt and
friend to more people than
most are fortunate enough to
meet. She will be missed by
all those whose lives she
touched and enriched.
Cindy is survived by two
sons, Walter Seymour Lang-
shaw III (Lisa), and Coleman
Carnegie Langshaw; three
grandsons, Samuel Pierce
Langshaw, Kinsey Charles
Langshaw and Coleman
Carnegie Langshaw II; and
numerous nieces and
nephews, many of whom saw
her as a second mother.
“People may not remember
exactly what you did, or what
you said, but they will always
remember how you made
them feel.”
Henry Clark
CLARK — Henry Clark,
90, of Kingsland passed
away Friday, Jan. 25, 2013,
at Southeast Georgia
Health System, Camden
Campus.
Born Feb. 6, 1922, in
Baxley, he was the son of
the late Frank and Maybell
Williamson Clark. In addi
tion to his parents, he was
preceded in death by his
son, Larry Allen Clark, five
brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Clark had resided in
Camden County since
1969, and was retired from
Dixie Concrete in Kings
land, with more than 36
years of service.
He was a member of the
American Legion Post No.
70, where he served as
post commander for 32
years, and member of the
Lions Club and First Baptist
Church of Kingsland. He
will be remembered most
for his famous barbecue.
Mr. Clark was a veteran of
the United States Army,
serving his country honor
ably during World War II.
Funeral services were
held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan.
29, from the First Baptist
Church Chapel in Kings
land, with Rev. Vernon
Dillingham officiating. In
terment followed at Lawn-
wood Cemetery with
Military Honors. Visitation
was held 6 to 8 p.m. Mon
day, Jan. 28, at Allison Me
morial Chapel in St. Marys.
Pallbearers were Robert
Knight, Darby Clark, Dennis
Simpson, Carlos Jones,
Jimmy McCollum, McL
Carter, Jason Matthews and
Russell Herndon. Honorary
pallbearers were members
of the American Legion
Post No. 70 of Kingsland.
Survivors include his lov
ing wife of 66 years, Doris
Courson Clark of Kingsland;
three children, Edgar Lee
Clark Sr. (Trudy) of Blacks-
hear, James Edwin Clark
(Marie) of Tifton and Lynda
Clark Simpson (John) of
Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; 17
grandchildren; 33 great
grandchildren; three great-
great-grandchildren; and
many nieces and nephews.

of arrangements.
Eva M. Byrd Thomas
THOMAS — Ms. Eva M. Byrd
Thomas, age 52, of Harrietts
Bluff Road in Woodbine passed
away late Friday evening, Jan,
25, 2013, at her residence.
Ms. Thomas was born on
April 5, 1960, in Fernandina
Beach, Fla. Ms. Thomas loved
fishing and spending time out
doors but her greatest love/joy
was being a mother to her chil
dren and a nanny to her grand
children.
She is the daughter of the late
Tom Rexell and the late Geneva
Olive (Brown) Byrd.
Ms. Thomas is survived by
her children, Jeannie (Keith)
Pierce of Woodbine, Jackie
(Brian) Smith of Folkston, Jack
(Michelle) Foskey of Woodbine
and Tina Miller of Woodbine; her
sisters, Mary (Travis) Sowell of
Springfield, Mo., and Trubee
(Pete) Evatt of Yulee, Fla.; and
her brothers, Dewey Byrd of
Aiken, S.C., and Charles Byrd of
Kingsland. She has five grand
children, Kody and Kaleb
Pierce, Kenzie Miller, Alexis Fos
key and Alyssa Smith. A lifelong
friend to her was Belinda Cook.
Ms. Thomas was preceded in
death by her siblings, Faye Cate,
Elizabeth Bower, Pat Barnard,
Lolita Chastain, Tommy Byrd,
Robert Byrd and John Byrd.
She has several nieces and
nephews, and many of them
looked to her as their second
mom.
Calling hours were 6 to 8 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 27, at the funeral
home. Funeral services were
held graveside at 1 p.m. Mon
day, Jan. 28, at Oak Grove
Cemetery in St. Marys, with
Pastor Keith Lloyd presiding.
Honorary pallbearers were
Mitchell Green, Phillip Byrd,
Marvin Green, Dewey Bower,
David Foskey and Eric Horne.
The family requests any me
morial contributions in her honor
be made to Hospice of the
Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Park
way, Brunswick, GA. 31525.

Home in Kingsland is entrusted
with her arrangements.
INNES — Gordon Martin
“Scotty” Innes, 84, of
Brunswick died Friday, Jan.
25, 2013, at his residence. Mr.
Innes’ memorialization will be
by cremation. A memorial
service may be announced at
a later date. Arrangements are
entrusted to Edo Miller and
Sons Funeral Home and
Oglethorpe Crematorium in
Brunswick.

Michael Metty
METTY — Michael Metty,
50, of St. Marys, passed away
Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Hos
pice of the Golden Isles in
Brunswick.
Michael was born Sept. 22,
1962, in Dearborn, Mich., and
had resided in Camden
County since 1993. He was re
tired from the United States
Navy with 20 years of service,
retiring as chief. During his
tenure, he was the “Sub Doc”
for the USS Kentucky blue and
gold, and following his retire
ment he sailed with the Mer
chant Marines and was
employed with Strategic
Weapons Facility Atlantic.
Michael was a member of
the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Post 8385, and loved riding his
motorcycle, with which he par
ticipated in many bike fundrais
ers. He was a loving father and
grandfather and lived life to the
fullest.
Funeral services will be
held at noon Friday, Feb. 1,
from Allison Memorial Chapel
in St. Marys with Chaplain Pat
McCord officiating. Visitation
will be held one hour prior to
service time. Burial will follow
the services at Oak Grove
Cemetery with full military
honors.
Survivors include his wife,
Mary Metty of Kingsland; two
sons, Michael Metty II of St.
Marys and Matt Metty
(Heather) of White Oak; two
grandchildren, Autumn Metty
and Matthew Metty III. He was
preceded in death by his
mother, Judy Callaway Metty.

TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF CAMDEN COUNTY
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on the 19th day of March
2013, an election will be held at the regular polling places in all
election districts of Camden County, Georgia (“the County”), at
which time there will be submitted to the qualified voters of the
county for their determination the question of whether a one per
cent county special purpose local option sales and use tax (“the
SPL0ST”) shall be imposed on all sales and uses in the special
tax district created in the Country for a period of 6 years for the
raising of approximately $65,000,000.00 for the purpose of fund
ing capital outlay projects (“the Projects”) specified in the form of
the ballot set forth below:

Shall a special one percent sales and use tax be imposed in the
special tax district of Camden County for a period of time not to
exceed 24 quarters and for the raising of an estimated amount of
$65,000,000.00 for the purpose of (1) funding for the County and
Public Service Authority Projects, and (2) for the funding of the
City of Kingsland, City of St. Marys, and City of Woodbine Proj
ects.
