The girls served their way
to third place and the boys to
fifth as the Camden County
High tennis teams opened
the season over the weekend
at the Chick-fil-A Invita
tional in Tifton.
After a 5-0 blitz of Bleck
ley County and a 4-1 loss to
Lakeside Evans, the girls
thumped Glynn Academy, 4-
1 for third, while the boys
started with 4-1 defeat to
Bleckley, then took down
Tift, 4-1 and Colquitt, 3-2 to
claim the consolation
bracket. Ingrid Wilcox and
Connor Lockhart won three
times each for Camden.
In eclipsing Glynn for
third, the CCHS girls got
singles victories from Kaley
Parchinski and Katie Hart
and doubles wins from the
Wilcox-Ani Vonk and Sarah
Sailors-Amanda Landry
pairs.
Parchinski took out Allie
Cox, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1, and
Hart won easily at No. 3, 6-1,
6-1 over Zoe Defoe. Wilcox-
Vonk rallied from a set down
to clip Alex Goeldener and
Abby Rogstad, 10-7 in a
third-set supertiebreaker at
No. 1 doubles, and Sailors-
Landry smacked Taylor Alig
and Alex Sapp, 6-1, 6-2 at
No. 2. Glynn avoided the
shutout at No. 2 singles, as
Sarah Durham edged Lexa
Loden, 6-4, 2-6, 10-3.
The girls dropped just 12
games total to Bleckley and
took every match in straight
sets.
In singles, Parchinski put
down Rebecca Roland, 6-3,
6-1 at No. 1; Loden bested
Juliette Grantham, 6-3, 6-0
at No. 2; and Hart shut out
Morgan Knight, 6-0, 6-0 at
No. 3. Wilcox and Vonk
were 6-3, 6-1 winners at No.
1 doubles over Emmie
Meadows and Kelsey Darsey,
and Sailors and Landry
breezed past Caroline Mead
ows and Sammie Horne, 6-1,
6-0 at No. 2.
Wilcox was Camden’s lone
winner in the Lakeside-
Evans semifinal at No. 3 sin
gles, squeaking past An-
naliese Leahy, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8.
Vonk and Landry were nosed
out 13-11 in a super
tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles
after dividing 6-4 results in
the first two sets, while
Parchinski and Loden lost in
straight sets in singles and the
Hart-Sailors team in two at
No. 1 doubles.
Lockhart, Ben Siclare and
Nathan Miller all won in
straight sets in singles as the
boys withstood a Colquitt
doubles sweep.
Siclare and Miller surren
dered just three games apiece
at the top two spots, Siclare
whipping David Forehand,
6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 and Miller
acing Lance Shealy, 6-1, 6-2
at No. 2. Lockhart fought off
Cody Jenkins, 7-6 (4), 6-2 at
No. 3.
Tight finishes marked the
doubles positions, which
both went to the Packers. Je
remy Johnson and Nick
Mobley outlasted Ryan Brad-
ham and Carleton Sweatt, 7-
6(4), 6-7(4), 14-12 at No. 1,
and Drew Davis and Philip
Long survived Hunter Prince
and Brendan Collins, 2-6, 7-
6(5), 10-8 at No. 2.
Camden won two super
tiebreakers and swept the sin
gles to beat Tift in the
consolation semifinals.
Siclare bounced back from
dropping the first set to
Collin Summerlin at No. 1
and pulled out a 4-6, 7-6 (6),
10-8 heart-stopper. Lockhart
handled Chase Griffin, 6-3,
6-4 at No. 2, and Bradham
had no problems at No. 3, 6-
0, 6-1 over Quay Clark.
The No. 2 Collins-Kevin
Harkins doubles team fol
lowed a similar route as Si
clare, finishing on the good
side of a 4-6, 7-6 (6), 10-6
tussle with Grant Cordle and
Matt Marsh. Tift’s only point
came at No. 1 doubles, Jack
Lee and Bennet Gibbs trip
ping Miller and Sweatt, 4-6,
6-3, 10-8.
Lockhart trounced Jacob
Gilbert, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 sin
gles, but Bleckley won the
other positions in straight
sets.
Siclare tumbled to Corey
Smith and Miller to Brennan
Sander at No. 1 and 3 singles.
Bleckley lost just seven games
combined in the doubles, as
A.J. Blankenship and Broddie
Stoddard defeated Bradham
and Sweatt, and Kyle Den-
nard and Tyler Holloman
upended Prince and Harkins.

The Wildcat junior varsity
netters were on the bus 75
minutes after their first serves
last Wednesday, Feb. 6, at
Wayne County, the boys and
girls teams both rapid 5-0
winners.

8-1 victors at No. 1 and 3 sin
gles for the boys, and eighth-
grader Walker Vonk an 8-0
winner at No. 2. Eighth-

Emmy Schroeder, at No. 1
singles, and Ryann Sprague,
at No. 3, took 8-0 decisions
for the girls, and Megan
Riggen an 8-2 win at No. 2.
CCHS was just as overpow
ering in doubles, as Savannah
Prescott and Sarah Burch
won 8-0 at No. 1, and
eighth-graders Courtney
Hart and Breann Sweatt 8-1
at No. 2.

to Zach Wright of Archer.
He allowed just two points
the rest of the way in wins
over Newton’s Victor Med
ina (16-0), Colquitt’s Hud
son May (6-0), Shiloh’s Idell
Gladney (13-0) and Coffee’s
George Johnson (4-2).
Eventual champion Josh
McMahan of Chatta-
choochee sent Ballard to the
consolation bracket in the
semis, which the Wildcat
had reached by injury de
fault over South Gwinnett’s
Zamane Ward and with a
17-2 tech fall over Alcovy’s
Austin Richardson. A 6-1
whipping of North Forsyth’s
Matt Carroll and a 7-2 deci
sion over Archer’s Orlando
Nawade netted Ballard
third.
Ryan battled to three con
solation-bracket wins after a
quarterfinal setback to
Chatthoochee’s Jordan Pitt.
Ryan, who needed just 39
seconds to pin Yonell Archie
of Lovejoy in his opener,
beat Shiloh’s Mike Jones
(13-0), pinned Lambert’s
Matthew Sheetz in 29 sec
onds and blanked West
Forsyth’s Denver
Stonecheck, 6-0 before an
other loss to Pitt.
After a first-round setback
to Berkmar’s Jose Acosta,
Davis pinned Luella’s Trevor
Mickles (32 seconds), Johns
Creek’s Forrest Montet
(3:59) and Chattahoochee’s
Mikey Cunningham (3:50)
in the consolations. Davis
lost his last two bouts to
Lambert’s Gantt Bauer and
to Newton’s A.J. Palomino
in the fifth-place match.
Also for Camden, Travis
Koenig, at 145, pinned
Rockdale’s Adam Walden in
10 seconds and won another
match unopposed, but lost
to Central Gwinnett’s
Levion Lewis, Alcovy’s
Justin Howell and
Parkview’s Terrance Lindsey
Wildcat 195-pounder Alex
Diaz won his first match
with a 1:58 fall of Alcovy’s
Michael Thurman, then suc
cumbed to Johns Creek’s
Corey Vaughn and Chatta
hoochee’s Chris Wedel. An-
fernee Butler wrestled at
126, falling to Newton’s
Kameron Wallace and to
North Forsyth’s Luke Slaton
in his two matches.
Last season, the Wildcats
finished second at the state
Class AAAAA traditional,
and while they qualified 11
competitors and state duals
champion Archer 14 for the
first AAAAAA meet, their
aim isn’t changing.
“We’re still trying to be
state champions this year,
and that’s our goal,” Wilder
said of this week.
Cats

Kedar Bryant’s 22 points
— matching a season high —
led Camden, and he grabbed
seven rebounds too. Sam
Daniel provided 21 points,
eight rebounds and six as
sists, and Jordan Malone
played huge inside with a
season-high 18 points and
seven boards for the ’Cats.
Lowndes trailed 42-33 at
the intermission before
Williams unloaded from the
perimeter. He turned one
three-pointer into a four-
point play to pull LHS
within 59-57, and a layup by
Marlon Nichols — one of
five Vikings in double digits
with 11 points — evened
matters.
Lowndes, which never led
by more than five all night,
opened a 78-74 lead with
2:2 3 left in regulation on two
free throws by Tremayne
Tippins, who finished with
11 points.
Bryant and Kevin McKen
zie baskets put CCHS within
82-81 with 12.1 seconds left,
and Camden quickly got the
ball back on an inbounds
turnover. Bryant split two
foul shots with 5.8 seconds
remaining for overtime.
Camden trailed 88-85 in
the final minute of the first
extra period before Landon
Drayton — who hit two
threes and scored eight of his
11 points in the overtimes —
connected from long dis
tance to tie. The Vikings had
several cracks to go back
ahead on their next posses
sion but couldn’t convert,
and eventually were whistled
for traveling.
Sadly, the margin became
too great for the Wildcats in
the second OT.
Nichols scored on a follow
and Williams struck again
from long range for 97-92
with 56 seconds left. Dray
ton answered with another
trey to bring CCHS within
two, but after a Viking foul
shot left Camden still within
one possession, a three-
pointer missed the mark and
Lowndes closed it out from
the charity stripe.
T.J. Drummond had 13
points, five assists, five re
bounds and a three-pointer
for Camden, Jonathan
Canada five assists and four
points, Keyshaun Street four
helpers and two points, and
McKenzie four points and
three assists.
For the Vikings, Eric Hen
derson scored 21 points, a
three-pointer mixed in, while
Kenny Moore netted 15
points, and Alan Urrutia
came off the bench for eight
more.
Camden shot to a 14-5
edge on a Drummond cor
ner three-ball, a Daniel-as
sisted Bryant hoop, and a
Daniel layup off a nifty
Canada feed. Drayton buried
a three late in a fast-paced
first quarter for 22-12.
Dunks by Drummond and
Daniel in the second stanza
brought the home faithful to
a roar and gave the Wildcats
their biggest advantage, 38-
24, with 2:58 left in the half.
On Saturday, Camden was
even with Coffee after three
quarters before the Trojans
struck for 29 in the final
quarter of a 72-55 victory.
Daniel was the only Wild
cat in double figures with 19
points, and he also posted
seven rebounds, two assists
and a three-pointer. Canada
scored nine, Malone eight
with eight rebounds, and
Bryant and Drummond had
five points and two boards
each for Camden, undone by
24 giveaways.
Hoops
from page 1B
field goals for the game,
lagged behind by as many as
17 points in the first half
and battled within 39-28
after three quarters but
couldn’t close the gap any
further.
Capri Cox, part of an all
senior starting Camden five,
scored 10 of her 12 in the
first half but was the only
CCHS performer in double
figures. Raven Burden
scored five points and had
five rebounds and three
steals, and Shantel Eason
four boards and three
points.
CCHS got 15 points from
its reserves, all of them com
ing from Khaila McMorris
(six points and a three-
pointer), Colette Cobb (five
points and a three-pointer)
and Cymone Roberts (four
points and two rebounds).
Lowndes had three in
double figures with Tashia
Brown, who scored 14 of
her game-best 16 in the first
half, and Lexus Miller (12
points) and T.T. Wilson
(10).
Working on the inside,
the lengthy Brown scored
10 in the first period, and
Wilson drained a right-wing
three-pointer in a 9-2 spree
that set Lowndes up 19-5.
Camden got a half-dozen
from Cox, a three from
Cobb and four Roberts free
throws in the second but
could only cut its deficit to
31-19 by the intermission.
On Saturday, Camden
struggled again out of the
gates, outscored 28-14 in
the first quarter of a 74-45
defeat at Coffee.
Saddled by early foul
problems, Burden still ac
counted for a team-leading
12 points — all on three-
pointers — and four re
bounds. Cox was next on
the scoring list with 11, four
assists and two steals also
part of her night, and Cobb
added seven points.
Jalan Stevens registered
five points and two re
bounds, McMorris four as
sists, and Sharai Larry and
Kaitlin Myers two rebounds
apiece for Camden, which
trailed 35-21 at halftime and
52-33 after three periods.
