High school earns AP nod
Friday, February 22
St. Marys Little Theatre will present
“Colorblind,” an original musical, at 7 p.m.
Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23,
and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Theatre
by the Trax, located at 1000 Osborne
Road. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for

Saturday, February 23
The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of
Foreign Wars breakfast will be held 9 to
11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23. The cost is $6
for adults and $3 for children 10 and
under. The VFW is located at 150 N. Cam
den Woods Parkway in Kingsland.
Tuesday, February 26
The St. Marys Convention & Visitors Bureau
Authority will hold its regular monthly meeting
at 3 p.m.Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the St. Marys City
Council chambers, located at 418 Osborne St.
Wednesday, February 27
The annual school council/Title I meeting
will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, in
the front office conference room at Mamie Lou
Gross Elementary School.
The College of Coastal Georgia Camden
Center will offer a health fair 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 27, in the rotunda of the
center. The event is free to students and mem
bers of the community. A variety of vendors
and activities will be provided at the fair. At
tendees will have the opportunity for a free
screening for HIV. In addition, there will be
blood pressure and blood sugar screenings;
bone density scans; body, gait and posture
analysis; quit-smoking assistance; and de
pression and stress screening.

ary Baptist Church during a revival starting
Feb. 27 and running through March 1. The
event will start at 7 each evening. The guest
speaker will be Bishop Matthew M. Odum of
Temple of Glory Community Church, Savan

Saturday, March 2
The Camden County Republican Party's
Grits 'n' Bits breakfast will be held at 9 a.m.
Saturday, March 2, at VFW Lodge No. 8385.
The lodge is located at 150 North Camden
Woods Parkway in Kingsland. The program
will be a forum featuring the six candidates for
probate judge. The cost of the breakfast will
be $6 and the public is invited to attend. For

Saturday, March 9
The Camden County Republican Party
will convene precinct mass meetings at 9
a.m. Saturday, March 9, to elect dele
gates and alternate delegates to the
Camden County Republican Party Con
vention. The county convention will con
vene at 10 a.m. at the same location for
the purpose of electing delegates and al
ternate delegates to the Congressional
District Convention and the state conven
tion. Both the precinct mass meetings
and county convention will be held at
Southern Junction, 600 Finley St. in St.
Marys. The county convention will con
vene at 10 a.m. All Camden County resi
dents who are legally registered to vote
and believe in the principles of the Re
publican Party are urged to participate in

Camden County High
School is earning recognition
for its advanced placement
(AP) participation rates.
The state department of
education on Wednesday
classified CCHS as an AP
STEM School and an AP
STEM Achievement School,
both marked by students test
ing in at least two AP math
courses and two AP science
courses.
The achievement school
designation is reached by also
having 40 percent of the exam
scores in those courses reach
3 or higher.
“In 2012 we had 763 ad
vanced placement tests taken,
and 398 students received one
or more college course cred
its. The hard work of our stu
dents and teachers continues
to pay off. Our students con
tinue to lead the way in aca
demic achievement and
college readiness. I commend
their families and teachers
and most importantly these
students for their commit
ment to education,” principal
Dr. John Tucker said.

Sea level rise seminar set
Speakers from the Univer
sity of Georgia’s Carl Vinson
Institute of Government and
Georgia Sea Grant will par
ticipate in a two-hour semi
nar and public discussion on
Thursday, Feb. 28, about sea
level rise vulnerability.
The seminar will begin at 7
p.m. in the Theatre By The
Trax, located at 1000 Os
borne St. in St. Marys.
It will provide a basic
overview of sea level rise sci
ence in the context of the
Georgia coast, as well as pre
liminary hazard and vulnera
bility analyses specific to
infrastructure and property in
St. Marys. These analyses will
be tailored to a range of sea
level rise scenarios that may
be reasonably expected over
the next 30 years.
The event will be hosted by
St. Marys EarthKeepers Inc.
