With a 136 total, the Cam
den County High girls
golfers took second of four
schools in matches last
Thursday in Waycross.
At Okefenokee Country
Club, the Lady Wildcats —
getting a 44 from Ashley
Eason and 46s from Mallory
Wilson and Shelby Banta —
were 21 strokes behind
Glynn Academy, while Ware
was third with a 144, and
Pierce last with a 152.
Overall, according to
coach Brent Blount, the
Camden linksters hit the ball
very well but struggled on
the greens with three-putts.
Camden was scheduled to
host Pierce at Trident Lakes
on Tuesday before heading to
the Maple Ridge Classic in
Columbus for the weekend.

Shelby Banta carded a 46 lastThursday for the Lady Wildcat

deck by scoring once in the
third and fifth, and twice each
in the fourth and sixth.
Jones started and permitted
six hits in three-and-two-
thirds, and was l-for-3 at the
plate. Brown was a perfect 2-
for-2 with a run scored, while
Cody Ilgenfritz contributed a
hit and run scored, and Page
a run scored and RBI.
Ilgenfritz doubled in the
first and scored on a Page
grounder to short. Brown
poked a two-out single in the
second and stole second, and
came in with Demitri Sauls-
berry on an error. The final
CCHS run came an inning
later as Page reached on an
error, advanced on a wild
pitch and was chased in by
Cross’ sacrifice fly to center.
JV, ninth-graders
defeat Providence
The Wildcat junior varsity
and freshmen teams had a
productive Saturday against
Providence, winning 6-3 and
6-4 with the help of five-run
innings.
The JV scored five in the
first and got two runs scored
from Antonio Wimbush, two
hits and an RBI from Nick
Palmer, a hit an RBI from
Ryan Greene, and two strike
outs in three innings pitched
from starter Matt Gay. Jack-
son Cullen got the save.
A five-run fourth turned
the tide for the ninth-graders
in a comeback victory. Pete
Valente, Brandon Knawhaw
and Trent Wainright all hit
safely, while on the mound,
Zeke Moore worked the first
three innings and Ricky Van-
noy got the win in a two-in
ning effort.
Goals
from page 1B
Caskill was next with 14:46
remaining before halftime,
finishing at the far post after
Crowley sneaked a cross
through the penalty box.
Valdosta put together
some minor threats in the
last 10 minutes of the first
half, but CCHS picked up
where it left off after the
break.
From the doorstep,
Urquhart hit with 31:25 to
go before the final buzzer,
finding an open net after a
right-side Feistner delivery.
For insurance, McCaskill
buried a loose ball from the
box with 2:09 remaining,
Peay earning the assist.
The boys (5-2-0 overall,
1-1-0 region) didn’t face
much pressure either, Don
nie Anderson, Grant
Gabriel, Joe York and Je
remy Beam finding the
back of the net. Beam also
had two helpers and Isaac
Linkous and Elias Frazier
one apiece.
“I feel like we’re starting
to develop some chemistry
out there,” said Camden
coach Rob Gabriel.
Anderson broke the ice
with 24:31 left in the first
half, flicking home a loose
ball from close in. Grant
Gabriel notched the second
with 14:30 remaining from
the box after collecting a
long clearance from Beam,
who had assisted on Ander
son’s goal too. Following a
Linkous corner kick, York,
from about 15 yards out,
rocketed home the third
goal at the 3:24 mark.
Firmly in control, Cam
den was able to get some
chances early in the second
half — even hitting the
crossbar — and as the min
utes ticked away, the only
question was whether
CCHS would complete the
shutout.
Beam struck late with the
left foot after a Frazier free
kick, and 1:08 later, the hosts
— who had 15 shots on the
night — had tossed up a zero.
The Camden girls and
boys will play in the Tourna
ment of Champions in Glynn
County beginning Thursday.
JV girls tie St. Vincent’s
Last Wednesday, March 6,
the CCHS girls (4-0-1) set
tled for a 1-1 draw as St. Vin
cent’s got the equalizer
following a comer kick in the
final minute.
Brogan Boudreaux scored
the Camden goal in the first
minutes of the second half,
on a header after a corner.
