Camden Gymnastics’

first place, its AAU Level 3
and 2 teams fourth and
sixth, and the Xcel Platinum
team sixth March 8-10 at
the Courtney Kupets Pink
Invitational in Savannah.
Six Xcel Silver competi
tors placed first in at least
one event as Camden
topped the team standings
with a 113.825 mark.
Saona Bourdon earned
firsts in the all-around
(37.675), with the help of a
first-place 9.65 on the bal
ance beam. Included in Ella
Marroquin’s first-place 37.3
in the all-around were win
ning scores of 9.4 on the
uneven bars and 9.5 in the
floor exercise, and team
mate Lillie Barnes put up
first-place scores on the
bars (9.85) and vault (9.4).
Ashlynn Carthan was top-
three in four events — with
a first-place 9.425 on the
bars — while Alana Hard
ing (9.45) and Chloe Thrift
(9.65) earned firsts on the
floor. Also for Camden,

the beam.
Serenity Minchew’s high
est placements were seconds
in both the all-around
(36.375) and beam (9.45),
and Kadence Wilson’s a sec
ond on the vault (9.1). A
9.25 on the floor put
Katherine Coppage fifth,
and an 8.9 in the vault
meant sixth for Brenna
Johnsen.
Sofia Warner’s winning
9.25 in the vault highlighted
the AAU Level 2 effort,
which resulted in a sixth-
place 109.5 tally.
Kaitlyn Munro tied for
second in the vault (9.2),
Ava Roberts took third on
the floor (9.4), and Amelia
Mozer (8.95) and Brynna
Wood (8.9) claimed third-

her best placement on the
beam, with a fifth-place 9.2,
and Elliet Lykins scored
8.775 on the bars, also good

Young spikers learn through competition

Volleyball is trying to
grab more of a foothold in
Camden County thanks to a
program helping introduce
the sport to a young audi
ence.
The Explosive Sports
Junior Volleyball Club or
ganization has 13-and-
under and 15-and-under
teams going this season,
with about two dozen girls
between them. Dundee Dil-
worth coaches the 15-and-
unders and Monica
Gutierrez the 13-and-under
squad, assisted by Jessica
Agnew.
In its fourth year and
third with two teams, the
Explosive association, ac
cording to Dilworth, is a
bridge between the fall high
school season and a summer
camp directed by Camden
County High School head
coach Billy Moore.
Sierra Harvey, on the 15-
under team, has played for
the club for three years and
likes the “energy” of the
sport. Teammate Reika
Curtin, who played with
close friends in Japan, said
she “would like to play for
ever” and maybe be a pro
fessional spiker someday.
The Explosive girls, who
practice four nights a week,
have a schedule of four tour
naments running through
April. The tournaments get
the girls used to the kind of
competition they will face,
and more knowledgeable
about the game.
The girls work hard, are

build more opportunities
early in the second half —

Linkous hit from the
penalty spot. The CCHS
defense held firm, the only
blemish Rittmeyer’s precise
delivery.
