College hosting
screening event
A free and confidential
depression screening will
be held 5 to 7 p.m. Mon
day, April 8, at the College
of Coastal Georgia, Cam
den Campus.
Information will also be
available on other mental
health issues.
Early intervention pro
grams, such as depression
screenings, identify people
suffering with depression
and allow them to seek
treatment that can help
them recover. Research
shows that 80 percent of
patients who are diag
nosed with depression can
get better with treatment.
However, less than half of
the people with a mental
illness receive treatment in
any given year.
Depression is consid
ered a serious but treatable
illness that affects more
than 18.8 million Ameri
can adults each year. This
accounts for approxi
mately 9.5 percent of the
population in the United
States. When compared to
other illnesses, depression
is one of the leading causes
of disabilities in the
United States as well as
other developed countries.
In the workforce, people
who are suffering with de
pression account for a
major cause of absenteeism
and productivity loss among
working-age adults. In addi
tion, some people who suffer
with depression may have
thoughts of suicide or may
have attempted or completed
suicide.
Mental and emotional
health are considered to be
just as important as physical
health. With positive mental
health, people can realize
their full potential, develop
effective coping skills, main
tain work productively and
reduce the risk of physical
diseases that are linked to de
pression or other mental
health disorders.

“And God shall wipe away all tears
from their eyes; and there shall be
no more death, neither sorrow, nor
crying, neither shall there be any
more pain; for the former things
are passed away.”
- Revelation 21:4
Dear Daddy, it has been
four years since you left us. We
have been missing you ever
since. We miss your voice,
laughter and the way you al
ways stated the truth. You
would always say that “I’m
down now, but I’ll be alright
after a while.” You were right.
We know that you are alright
now. We know that you aren’t
suffering anymore. There is
no more sadness in your life
and no more tears for you to
bear. We now still shed tears
for you, but it will also be al
right after a while for us and
we will meet you once again.
Your presence in the last few
years of our lives has given us
more good memories of you.
Thanks to God for allowing
you to be our father.
Missing you always,
Harold, Rickey and the
