‘Adopted’ ducks score big for owners
The Rotary Club of Cam
den County held its 14th an
nual Rotary Duck Race at
the Woodbine Crawfish Fes
tival on April 27. A total of
2,600 rubber ducks were
“adopted” through the sale
of duck race tickets by Ro
tary Club members. Ticket
numbers corresponded to
numbers on the bottom of
each duck.
The ducks were dumped
from the Highway 17 bridge
into the Satilla River by a
tractor and then “raced” to
the finish line about 200
yards downriver. The first
four ducks to cross the finish
line garnered prize money
for their owners. This year’s
winners were David James
Sr., first place, $1,000; Karen
Hambright, second place,
$500; Tony Fuesler, third
place, and Cheryl Criters,
fourth place, both $125.
The real winners of the
duck race are the many char
ities supported by the Rotary
Club. This year’s primary
beneficiaries are: Camden
House, the Methodist Boys
Home and the Wee Read
Camden literacy program.
Proceeds from the race also
go to fund the Student and
Teacher of the Month Pro
gram, two scholarships for
Camden County High
School seniors, the Georgia
Rotary Student Program,
Missions for Camden, The
Salvation Army and many
more.
The Rotary Club of Cam
den County also provides as
sistance to the Rotary
International Foundation,
which strives to end polio
throughout the world and to
provide safe drinking water
and sanitation to people in
third world countries.
