Storm surges to
second place in
Waycross tourney
Last Saturday at the ball
park stretched into Sunday
for the Camden County
Storm 8-and-under travel
baseball team, which finished
second in a 14-team tourna
ment in Waycross.
Made up of 6- to 8-year-
olds, the Storm was placed in
the silver bracket after the
first round of pool play.
Camden beat the Appling
County Shedders, 11-7 in its
first bracket contest before a
9-5 loss to the Pierce County
Bears. Making adjustments
in the double-elimination
format, the Storm slugged
their way to a 7-5 triumph
over the Pooler Pirates — a
team they had met before in
an earlier tournament —
then beat Pierce, 11-5 in a
rematch to earn a champi
onship-round shot at the
Nocahoma squad from
Nashville, Ga.
Nocahoma had made
short work of its previous
opponents, winning each
game by the run rule within
three innings. Camden
bolted to a 4-0 lead in the
first inning and led 14-13
after the top of the seventh
before Nocahoma eked out a
15-14 victory.
The Waycross tourney
was the Storm’s third of the
season.
Camden outscored three
opponents by a combined
48-12 to win a March 30
competition in Brantley
County, and split four games
in a double-elimination
event April 20 in Blackshear.
The Storm will play May 31
and June 1 in the Wheel
Pitch World Series in Pooler.
