Brown’s Chapel AME Church
The women’s department of Brown’s Chapel AME
Church will observe its annual women’s day service at
3 p.m. on Monday, June 3.
The guest speaker will be Rev. Mabel Waye, retired
pastor of United Methodist Church. The guest choir
will be Carnegie Church and the guest soloist will be
Mother Amanda Stephens of St. Johns Missionary
Baptist Church.
Everyone is invited. Rev. Dr. Ronald Hamilton is the
pastor.
Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church
The entire community and surrounding cities are in
vited to the 90th anniversary of Gethsemane Mission
ary Baptist Church and the fourth anniversary of its
pastor, Rev. Michael Guerin.
The celebration will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday
and Thursday, May 22 and 23, and at 4 p.m. Sunday,
May 26.
Pastor Guerin has been and continues to be a pillar
in the community in his service to God and the com
munity at large. He serves as the moderator of the
Gethsemane Baptist Association.

Kingsland First Baptist Church
Kingsland First Baptist Church will hold its family
fun night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at
the St. Marys Aquatic Center.
There is no charge for the event and all Camden
County families are invited.
Zion Sisters Missionary Baptist Church
The Zion Sisters Missionary Baptist Church annual
family and friends day will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday,
May 26.
The speaker will be Minister Arizona Perkins.
The public is invited to attend.

Benefit slated for May 26
A benefit program will be
held for Elainna Anderson
at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May
26, at Georgia Avenue
Church of God.
Bishop Terry Mack will
serve as guest speaker. The
public is invited to show
love/support for Anderson.
At an early age, she was di
agnosed with type I juvenile
diabetes. As a result, she has
lost sight in her right eye
and 75 percent in her left
eye. Other effects of the dis
ease have resulted in Ander
son being placed on the
kidney donor’s list through
the Mayo Clinic.
The medical costs for her
medical care is in excess of
$30,000, which includes on
going physicians’ and spe
cialists’ visits for eye care
and or surgeries, inpatient
and outpatient care, pre
scription medications and
medical supplies for dialysis.
Therefore, the church is
calling upon the commu
nity’s help to make financial
contributions. Those who
are unable to attend who
would like to donate may

Children invited to VBS
Vacation Bible school
(VBS) will be held from 9
a.m. to noon Monday, June
17, through Friday, June 21,
at Kingsland First United
Methodist Church.
The theme this year is
provided by Go Fish Guys
and is called “Praise.” Chil
dren will learn to get down
while lifting God up.
The children will cele
brate the end of VBS with a
party at the St. Marys
Aquatic Center from 6:30 to
8:30 p.m. on Friday, June
21. The VBS party is open
to attendees and their fami
lies.
VBS is open to all chil
dren who are 3 years old as
of Sept. 1 through the up
coming sixth grade. Chil
dren must be potty trained.
Children ages 3 through
upcoming kindergarten
must be pre-registered.
Registration is available on

registration form can be ob
tained at the church office
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon
day through Thursday. The
office is closed for lunch
from noon to 1 p.m.

Church sponsors youth camp
An empowerment youth
camp will be held from 8
a.m. Saturday, June 1, to 8
a.m. Sunday, June 2, at Em
manuel Empowerment
Temple, located at 102 S.
Grove Blvd. in Kingsland.
The camp is for ages 12 to
17. There will be seminars
on proper dress code and
etiquette, the importance of
education and the value of
abstinence and a movie.
The boys will camp out out
doors in tents and the girls
will have a slumber party in
doors. Boys and girls will be
taught separately. The dead
line to register is Sunday,

O’Connell
New
priest
to serve
Rev. Paul O’Connell will
soon become pastor at Our
Fady Star of the Sea
Catholic Church in St.
Marys and its mission, St.
Francis in Folkston.
The current pastor, Rev
erend Gabriel Cummings,
will begin a new assignment
at St. Francis Carbrini
Catholic Church in Savan
nah.
O’Connell, a native of Ire
land, trained as a secondary
school teacher. He taught in
Belfast, Northern Ireland, as
well as Spain and South
Africa.
After completing seminary
training at Holy Apostles
Seminary in Connecticut, he
was ordained for the Diocese
of Savannah by Bishop
Emeritus Kevin Boland.
He served at Sacred Heart
in Warner Robins, has been
pastor at Baxley, Hazlehurst
and Alma and is currently
pastor of St. Joseph in Way-
cross.
