Jones responded that St.
Marys needs to show that it
is business friendly and be
aggressive about enticing
businesses.
“I see a lot more eco
nomic activity within our
community,” he said. “A lot
more properties are chang

more sales. People are look

They’re feeling a little more
confident.”
Giving up a portion of its

compared to what St. Marys
will reap from the company
in the long term, council

The seventh annual
Fourth of July bike-decorat

Wednesday, July 3, on the
lawn at First Presbyterian
Church, located on the cor

The contest is for chil
dren 6 to 15 years of age.
The time will be 9 a.m. to
noon. In the event of rain,
the event will be held in the
fellowship hall of the
church.
Judging will begin at 1

will be awarded to the win

a trophy from the mayor
and a grand prize for the

Winners will ride their bikes

The theme for bike deco

Cookies and juice will be
served while decorating.
Hot dogs and drinks will be

The company, dubbed
Rebirth by Jones, was lo
cated in St. Marys until
2002 and has been manu
facturing lumber since
1974. Leaders are seeking
new office space after their
Yulee office was sold in
March.
As a top producer of
southern yellow pine in the
U.S., the company operates
six sawmills — located in
Maxville, Fla., Perry, Fla.,
Lake Butler, Fla., Fitzger
ald, Dudley and Blackshear
— that produce 550 million
board feet annually, which
is enough lumber to con
struct 65,000 houses, ac
cording to Jones.
Estimated to cost $2.1
million, the 11,500-square-
foot building could be com
pleted by the end of the
year, Jones said.
