The Humane Society of

www.petfinder.org.
If someone is interested
in a certain animal, the
shelter, located at 950 S.
Grove Blvd. in Kingsland,
should be contacted as soon
as possible. If one’s pre
ferred animal has already
been adopted, there are
many more animals waiting
for a nice home.

offered
The Camden County
Health Department is offer
ing the shingles vaccination
to those ages 60 and older
and can now directly bill
Medicare Part D for eligible
clients.
The shingles vaccine is
recommended by the Cen
ters for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) to pre
vent the shingles rash, a
painful skin rash that can
cause blisters, fever,
headache and even result in
nerve pain or damage. The
best way to prevent shingles
is to get vaccinated.
Clients with Medicare
Part D will only have to pay
their individual cost share, a
significant discount from the
full price of the vaccine.
Clients with other insurance
coverage are encouraged to
contact the health depart
ment to determine if their
health insurance can be
billed directly.
The full cost of the vac
cine is $182 for clients who
pay out of pocket.
About one out of every
three people in the United
States will develop shingles,
also known as zoster or her
pes zoster. Shingles is caused
by the varicella zoster virus,
the same virus that causes
chicken pox.
After a person recovers
from chicken pox, the virus
stays in the body in an inac
tive state.

Everyone needs
a fitness plan
Dear Editor,
Moderate exercise initiates
healing physically and emo
tionally.
Walking gets oxygen into
the bloodstream to fight off
anxiety and depression, and
helps elders’ bowel function,
too.
Sixty-year-old women will
get out of a sick bed for a so
cial event, but they have no
interest to walk for circula
tion.
A disciplined fitness plan is
the only remedy for every
one.
My role models were re
sponsible women of different
cultures. They had beautiful
hair and skin. They got sun
to activate vitamin D in their
body, had hard bodies
through their 80s and out
side activities, including gar
dening, laundry outside,
potted plants, arts and crafts,
etc.
Introverted women’s skin
looks like leather. Powder on
the face will age you, and
hair dry like moss needs
scalp sun and oil massage.
By extending the body by
walking, biking, soccer and
swimming, you initiate neu
ropeptides (amino acids),
which affect white cells in
the bloodstream to fight off
disease-attacking viruses.
Increasing oxygen intake
builds protein and bolsters
the immune system. Exercise
builds self-esteem, and is
best for sleep support. I’ve
gone to bed at dark since a
child, and I sleep like a child.
Watch no bad news ever,
no violence of any type and
shut technology and the cell
phone off. Meditation on the
environment recharges our
emotional battery, no cell.
Those who are 65 to 85
years of age scare me with
their sedentary lifestyle.
There is no diversity. They
have less activity, with mem
ory loss and comfort set
schedule.
With a miner’s light, you
can do anything at night:
build and paint flower
planters, bike, learn to more
accurately throw baseballs
and play soccer. With the
heat factor from May to Oc
tober, nights are the option.
For those playing with
cellphones and laptops, their
obituary will be before mine.
Notice the white-collar male
obituaries, 60-year-olds after
retirement are gone in two to
six years due to an intro
verted lifestyle.
When you settle down
with a companion 28 to 32,
you can predict a health pat
tern by 58, by lack of activity
and poor diet.
By 2015, one out of five
will be diabetic, with diges
tive and intestinal problems.
There will be a global short
age of medication, the writ
ing on the wall.
Listen to music, cartoons
and romantic comedies that
make you happy. Take shawls
and knitted caps to retire
ment homes, and potholders,
linens, towels and stove mitts
to elders. It is rewarding.
Do good for others and
you will find your inner
peace.
Apply massage oil on ham
strings, liniment on the
knees warms the bones and
lavender on pulse points
keeps one calm. Then exer
cise.
Women lose a diamond in
every ring. I found two on
the sidewalk while biking.
There could be broken gold
chains, watches and cell
phones, too, so start walking.
Men, there are all the tools
you need on the roadway;
just look.

The Camden County Health Department is offering the shingles vaccination, which is the
best way to prevent shingles, to people who are 60 and older.
For reasons that are not
fully known, the virus can
reactivate years later, causing
a painful outbreak of shin
gles. Anyone who has had
chicken pox can develop
shingles, and the risk of get
ting the disease increases as
a person gets older.
For more information on
getting vaccinated, contact
the local health department.
For information on shin
gles or the shingles vaccine,
