County card lets
residents save
on prescriptions
The Camden County
Public Library has added an
other program to its calendar
for the adult summer pro
grams for all residents of
Camden County.
At 6 p.m. on Thursday,
July 11, the Camden County
administrator’s staff will de
fine the benefits of the Na
tional Association of
Counties (NACo) Prescrip
tion Discount Card pro
gram.
The program is sponsored
by the NACo and Caremark.
It offers the county a chance
to offer prescription savings
to the uninsured and the un
derinsured county residents.
This program can help resi
dents save money on pre
scriptions at an average
discount of 24 percent.
The entire family can be
covered with one card. The
Prescription Drug Card
works for pets, too.
There is no enrollment
form, no membership fee,
one card and immediate use.

Obituaries
Guenter Martin Roesch
ROESCH — Guenter Mar
tin Roesch of St. Marys
passed away on Sunday, July
7, at home surrounded by his
family, after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Munich,
Germany, and lived there until
the age of 22, when he was
sent to the United States with
the German Air Force for pilot
training at Moody Air Force
Base.
He was a graduate of the
Geisela Oberreal Schule in
Munich, the German Air
Force Academy, and earned
his MBA and DBA degrees
online after his retirement as
director of food services for
Valdosta State University in
1999.
After serving six years in
the GAF, he immigrated to the
United States. He was gen
eral manager of several Holi
day Inn hotels on Panama
City Beach and other loca
tions for over 10 years and
co-owned and operated his
own restaurant in Valdosta,
the Bavarian Inn, for five
years.
Roesch was an inactive
deacon of St. Marys First
Baptist Church, where he
served in the past as chair
man of the deacons, church
treasurer, and Sunday school
teacher of an adult couples
class.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, Martin and Rosl
Roesch of Munich, Germany.
He is survived by his wife of
50 years, Avie Sue Hagan
Roesch of St. Marys; daugh
ter, Nicole McKee (Richard) of
St. Marys; son, Edward Martin
Roesch (Laura) of Valdosta;
grandchildren, Bailey Roesch,
Benjamin Roesch of Valdosta,
Andrew Lang and Ally Lang of
St. Marys; brother-in-law,
Eddie Hagan; sister-in-law,
Barbara Hagan; and numer
ous nieces and nephews, all
of Valdosta; uncle and aunt,
Fritz and Ernie Roesch, and
several cousins, all of Munich,
Germany.
Funeral services will be
held at 4 p.m. Wednesday,
July 10, at the St. Marys First
Baptist Church with Pastor
Steve Kegley officiating. The
family will receive friends at
the church one hour prior to
service time.
Graveside services will be
held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July
11, at Riverview Memorial
Gardens, 3945 N. Valdosta
Road, Valdosta.
Pallbearers will be James
Galloway, Cecil Gay, Bill
Lawrence, Robert Paulk, Jeff
Ritter and Andy Watson. Hon
orary pallbearers will be former
members of Guenter Roesch’s
Sunday school class.
The family requests memo
rial contributions in memory
of Mr. Roesch to the Chest of
Joash, a special fund of the
St. Marys First Baptist
Church, for buildings and fu
ture expansions of the
church, 102 W. Weed St., St.
Marys, GA 31558.

WILLIAMS — First Lady
Sylvia Williams died on July 3
at Memorial Hospital in Savan
nah. Funeral services will be
held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July
13, 2013, at First African Bap
tist Church in Hilton Head, S.C.
The address is 70 Beach City
Road. There will also be a serv
ice locally at a later date.
ROBERTS — Ella Amelia
Roberts of Blackshear, and a
long-time resident of Kings-
land, went home to be with the
Lord on Thursday, July 4, 2013.
Ella was born May 30, 1926.
She was preceded in death by
her husband of many years,
George Groover and A.C.
Roberts; her son, Seymour
Groover; and daughter, Joan
Smith.
Ella was greatly loved and
will be missed by everyone, in
cluding her surviving children,
Ida Thrift of Kingsland, Jean
nette Banning of Jacksonville,
Fla., Mary Jane Burch of
Blackshear and Georgette
Adams of Rancho Cuca
monga, Calif. Her grandchil
dren are Rev. Seymour
Groover, Robin Oborn, Ronald
Thrift, Brandi Catanzaro,
Allyson Wraggs, Christy Hook,
Melissa Shirah, Charlie
Robertson, Rebecca Salis,
Kandie Harvey and Jennifer
Davidson. She was loved and
cherished by her many grand
children and great-grandchil
dren.
Ella will always be remem
bered for her strong Christian
beliefs, thoughts, conduct and
daily studies of her Bible. Al
ways a faithful servant, she
loved the Lord and is now in
His Kingdom.
A memorial service will be
held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July
11, at Ivory Palace Church, lo
cated at 259 Brantley St. in
Nahunta, Georgia; (912) 462-

LEAVY — Kathleen Mary
Leavy, 77, passed away Satur
day, July 6, 2013, surrounded
by her family at home.
Born Dec. 3, 1935, in
Queens, N.Y., she was the
daughter of the late Mary H.
and Patrick Joseph Coffey Sr.
Coming from West Palm
Beach, Fla., she had assisted
the chaplain as a eucharistic
minister at St. Marys Hospital;
was president of Palm Lake
Coop Social Club; was an ac
tive participant with the Na
tional Christ Child Society, and
was a member of the St. Fran
cis of Assisi Catholic Church,
where she was also a member
of the altar society. She at
tended Our Lady Star of the
Sea Catholic Church in St.
Marys.
A funeral Mass will be held
at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 10,
2013, from Our Lady Star of
the Sea Catholic Church in St.
Marys with Fr. Paul O’Connell
officiating. Burial will follow at
Oak Grove Cemetery. The
family received friends on
Tuesday evening from 6-8 at
Allison Memorial Chapel in St.
Marys.
Survivors include her hus
band, Edward Leavy of St.
Marys; daughters, Pat Leavy of
Kingsland, Eileen Rufo (Mike)
of Jackson, N.J., Katie Nile
(Curtis) of Richmond Hill, and
Norah Shusko (Daniel) of
Kingsland; sons, Ed Leavy
(Patti) of St. Marys and Sean
Leavy of Keyport, N.J.; three
sisters, two brothers, 16 grand
children, two great-grandchil
dren and several nieces and
nephews.

KELLY — Elwood Kelly, 66,
of Kingsland, passed away
Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at
Hospice of the Golden Isles in
Brunswick.
Funeral services were held
at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 6, from
Allison Memorial Chapel in St.
Marys. The family received
friends at the funeral home one
hour prior to service time. In
terment followed at Lawnwood
Cemetery.
Allison Memorial Chapel is
in charge of arrangements.
