four children joining the cast.

St. Marys Little Theatre
will debut its third season
with “You’re a Good Man,
Charlie Brown.”
Performances will be held
at 7 p.m. Friday and Satur
day, Sept. 13 and 14, 20 and
21, and at 2 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 22, at Theatre by the
Trax, located at 1000 Os
borne Road in St. Marys.
The musical is based on
characters by cartoonist
Charles M. Schulz in his
comic strip, “Peanuts,” a car
toon that has inspired many
television specials and stage
productions.
When choosing an open
ing show for St. Marys Little
Theatre’s (SMLT) third sea
son, SMLT chair Barbara
Ryan was looking for a pro
duction that would engage
people of all ages. The Tony-
award winning “Charlie
Brown” filled the bill.
“It is a show that will be
enjoyed as much by a 63-
year-old as a 5-year-old,”
Ryan said. “The main char
acter roles are played by
adults with four children
joining the cast.”
Ryan said that Snoopy,
played by SMLT veteran J.
Steven Jones, will charm au
diences with his audacious
attitude and entertaining
songs.
“SMLT music director
Megan Friese-Kaufman of
Friese Studio of Music is as
sembling and leading the or
chestra,” Ryan said, a theatre
luxury that SMLT has not
had since its opening pro
duction, “Man of La Man
cha.”
As St. Marys Little The
atre enters its third season,
audiences will appreciate the
new air conditioning (AC)
system installed in the audi
ence area.
Phase I of the new AC
system was underwritten by
generous community pa
trons and Turner Brothers;
all comprise the Giving
Tree that can be seen in the
lobby of Theatre by the
Trax.
“We are so fortunate to
have a facility like Theatre
by the Trax as our home per
formance venue,” said L.J.
Williams, vice chair of St.
Marys Little Theatre.
“The building is ever
evolving and improving and
visitors who come to town
representing film companies
and other businesses are con
stantly impressed with the
facility.”
Tickets are $12 for adults
and $8 for children 12 and
younger. They can be pur
chased at Once Upon a
Bookseller in downtown St.
Marys, On the Green Salon
and Day Spa at the entrance
to Osprey Cove, Friese Stu
dio of Music at the entrance
to Shadowlawn or at the
Kingsland Depot, located at
200 E. King Ave. in Kings
land. Groups of 10 or more
can get a group rate of $10
per ticket.

District hosts breastfeeding event Aug. 16
attract butterflies
To commemorate World
Breastfeeding Week 2013,
the Coastal Health District,
in conjunction with several
community partners, will
host family-friendly events
on Friday, Aug. 16, in Cam
den, Glynn, Liberty and
Chatham counties.
Local events will begin at
9:30 a.m. at Howard Gilman
Memorial Park in downtown
St. Marys.
Celebrations will take
place throughout the month
of August and will include
public walks, prize giveaways
and information on the ben
efits of breastfeeding. All the
events are family friendly.
World Breastfeeding
Week is celebrated in August
every year in more than 170
countries to encourage
breastfeeding and improve
the health of babies around
the world. It commemorates
the declaration made by
World Health Organization
(WHO) and the United Na
tions Children's Fund
(UNICEF) policy-makers in
August 1990 to protect, pro
mote and support breast
feeding.
This year's theme is
"Breastfeeding Support:
Close to Mothers" and the
goal is to draw attention to
the importance of peer coun
seling for mothers trying to
breastfeed. The key to best
breastfeeding practices is
continued day-to-day sup
port for breastfeeding moth
ers within their home and
community.
The Coastal Health Dis
trict is committed to helping
mothers breastfeed their ba
bies because breastfeeding is
so important for good
health. Breast milk is easy to
digest, with just the right
amount of fat, sugar, water
and protein for a baby's
growth and development.
Breastfed babies usually get
sick less often, because breast
milk contains antibodies that
can protect infants from bac
terial and viral infections.
