Sainz to serve as
state ambassador
Steven Sainz, 19, of Cam
den County has been se
lected to serve as a National
Child Awareness Month
State Youth Ambassador.
As one of 51 youth am
bassadors selected from a
nationwide pool, Sainz will
receive funding and training
to lead an initiative to de
crease underage drinking in
Camden County, which the
Georgia Department of Be
havioral Health has identi
fied as a high needs area
with regard to underage
drinking.
Alcohol is the drug most
abused by Georgia’s youth.
Sainz’s work with Youth
Service America (YSA) will
begin in September —
which is National Child
Awareness Month — when
he travels to Washington,
D.C., for implementation
training meetings with state
officials. He then will re
turn home to launch a
media and advocacy cam
paign to show the conse
quences of underage
drinking.

sources’ (CCAR’s)
prevention initiatives coor
dinator.
Sainz coordinates the im
plementation of Depart
ment of Behavioral Health
Office of Prevention Serv
ices statewide initiatives to
lower underage drinking in
Camden County.
He has also founded the
Camden Community Ac
tion Team (C-CAT), a
group of six leading Cam
den County High School
students who will imple
ment a schoolwide social
norming campaign on un
derage drinking at Camden
County High.
Sainz was selected as a
state ambassador through a
competitive application
based on his proposal’s po
tential to create substantive,
large-scale change on behalf
of young people in Georgia.

Children Foundation to
raise awareness about issues
affecting children and en
courage the nation’s youth
to take action.
Senate Resolution 173 of
ficially designates Septem
ber 2013 as National Child
Awareness Month.
The 51 state ambassadors
will work in their communi
ties and form a collective
network to raise awareness
around issues affecting
young people.
Ambassadors receive a na
tional-level platform for
their cause; a $1,000 grant
to develop or go to an exist
ing project in his or her
home state; ongoing train
ing, project and technical
assistance support; and net
working opportunities with
other ambassadors across
the country.

Justin’s Miracle Field is a nonprofit organization that provides a
specialized baseball field for individuals with disabilities. Even those
who use wheelchairs or walkers for mobility can play the game of
baseball. Anyone who has an intellectual or physical disability can
play. There is no age limit.
Every player is assisted by a buddy. Buddies assist the players
in hitting, catching, throwing and running the bases. They provide

encouragement for
players of
2013 FALL SEASON
All Miracle League games will be
played at 10 and 11:30 a.m. on Saturday
mornings this fall at Kingsland Lions Park. Fall
games will run from Saturday, Oct. 5 through
Saturday, Nov. 23. Registration forms can be found at
www.camdenmiracleleague.com (see Player/Volun
teer registration tab). Please print and complete the
registration forms prior to registration. Returning
players and volunteers/Buddies from the spring 2013
season are not required to fill out forms,
but are asked to attend a
signup session to verify
paperwork that is on file.
