Sally Merck, a local artist and teacher, recently completed a facelift on Black Beauty and a
giraffe in the children’s department at the Camden County Public Library. She is working on
the snake now.The Camden County Public Library kicks off its fall story times this month.
The programs will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 11,18 and 30 and Oct. 2,9, 16,23 and 30.The
9:30 a.m. story is for children 6 months to 23 months old.The 10:15 a.m. program is for tod
dlers that are 2 years old.A story time for children ages 3,4 and 5 starts at 11 a.m.The pro
grams are in the community room at the library. No sign-up is required. Children can enjoy
stories, puppets, finger plays, music, dancing, crafts and more activities. Siblings are welcome

STAR of HOPE is collecting non-perishable food donations to benefit local food banks this
fall.The deadline for donations is Friday, Nov. 22.

Everyday) team and the
sheriff’s office STAR of
HOPE are accepting dona
tions of non-perishable food
items to benefit local food
banks for Thanksgiving.
Items can be dropped off
in the designated boxes at
county government offices.
Suggested items include
canned ham and meats, pan
cake mix, corn meal, flour,
sugar, canned pie filling, pie
crust mix, pudding mix,
canned vegetables, marsh
mallows, stuffing mix, instant
mashed potatoes, rice, dried
beans, fruit cocktail, canned
fruit, canned gravy, broth,
macaroni and cheese, juices,
cooking oil, cake mixes,
frosting, dried pasta, foil
pans, pie pans, salt and pep
per.
For the safety of those
served, open packages,
homemade food items, per
ishable foods and expired
items will not be accepted.

Camden students mark
academic achievements
Two local students have
been named to the summer
2013 academic achievement
list at Georgia Southwestern
State University.
These students are
Christopher Law and
Kayota Tolbert, both of St.
Marys. They were among
401 students recognized for
scholastic achievement.
To be eligible for the aca
demic achievement list, a
student must previously
earn at least 15 credit hours,
be enrolled in three to 14
hours of courses and earn a
3.5 or higher grade point
average.
Georgia Southwestern
State, located in Americus,
is a public, four-year unit of
the University System of
Georgia with 3,000 stu
dents.
Matthew Meeks of
Kingsland has been named
to the summer 2013 dean’s
list at Georgia Southwestern
State University.
Meeks was among 401
students recognized for
scholastic achievement.
To be eligible for the
dean’s list, a student must
earn a semester grade point
average of 3.5 or better and
take a minimum of 15 credit
hours.

announced the president’s
list for summer semester
2013.
Ashley Taylor, nurse’s
aide, and Brittny Walker,
radiologic technologist,
both of Camden County,
were named to the list.
To qualify for the honor, a
student must be classified as
full-time, have a grade point
average of 3.75 or higher
and have a cumulative grade
point average of 2.0 or bet
ter.
