Davis, Minckler challenging Mounsey for post
Introduction
My name is Don Moun
sey. I have served on the
Kingsland Planning and
Zoning Commission for two
years prior to being elected
to the city council. I have
served for nine years on the
council.
I served in the United
States Air Force for 30
years. I served in Korea and
Vietnam during both con
flicts. I committed to serve
my country for that period.
I finished that commitment
as a chief master sergeant,
E9.
To this date, I do not con
sider myself as retired. I
consider my position as
councilman to be a full time
position. I represent all the
people who voted for me
and the ones who didn’t. I
am available 24/7 to answer
questions, help people and
solve problems.
I am married to Susie A.
Mounsey and have six chil
dren: four sons and two
daughters who have become
very successful in life. We
settled in Kingsland 15 years
ago, bought property and
designed and built our
home. During those years, I
have been totally dedicated
to enhance the quality of life
for the citizens in Kingsland.
Candidate questionnaire
1. First of all, I agreed to
the fire study only to deter
mine if there were any areas
that we could improve serv
ice to the citizens of Kings
land. When the study was
completed, the Camden
County commissioners sug
gested to set up a committee
consisting of the county ad
ministrator, city managers
and two elected officials
from the county, two from
St. Marys and two from
Kingsland. This was accom
plished and I am one of the
elected officials on the board.
We had our first meeting on
Oct. 10, 2013. A representa
tive from the group that did
the study also attended the
meeting.
The group tasked the rep
resentative to compile a pri
oritized list of recommended
tasks that the board could
look at to determine the fea
sibility of combining services
between the county and
cities. The list will be pre
sented to the board in No
vember 2013 and we will
move on from there.
In regards to response
times, we discussed this in
detail. One issue concerning
this is that there are several
streets within the county that
have the same name, i.e.
Colerain Road. There are
two streets that have that
same name. This causes
problems when dispatching
fire and EMS. There are also
several addresses that require
changing. The county has
directed the 911 Center to
work with the planning and
zoning departments to rem
edy this situation. Initially I
feel that we should look hard
at Automatic Aid agree
ments. In no way, shape or
form do I want to reduce the
quality of services to the cit
izens of Kingsland. This is
not an easy tasking and we
have to do our business
smartly. If reelected, I vow to
keep our citizens informed.
2. Open government is
very important to me. As I
stated before, I am a council
man 24/7.1 represent all the
citizens of Kingsland. This
position is my full time job. I
visit all the departments
within the city on a biweekly
schedule plus I go to city hall
three to four times a week
and visit the city manager
and staff. I go to the job sites
to check on the progress.
The city employees are very
important to me. They pro
vide the services to our citi
zens. They all know me. I
have always believed that the
employees are the most im
portant part of any organiza
tion. When I am out and
about and citizens approach
me with questions, I can pro
vide them with answers and,
when I don’t know the an
swers, I research the issues
and get back to them. The
city clerk prepares the up
coming agenda and delivers
it to council members five
days prior to the meeting. At
that time, I review the items
so that I totally understand
them. If I am not knowl
edgeable about the item, I
then research it out to be
come fully knowledgeable in
order to make the right deci
sion. “Keep the people in
formed” is my motto.
3. Garfunkle Road is the
road that runs from Highway
40 (Kmart) to Middle School
Road and Gross Road is
being built and paved. We
need to complete this project
in order to relieve the traffic
congestion on Gross Road
and Highway 40.
Harrietts Bluff Road by
the Industrial Park: We need
to complete the gravity
sewer line and the water sup
ply line plus the access road
to the site of the new busi
ness located there. It is an
86,000-square-foot building

Introduction
I am a 41-year-old father of
two sons. I am dedicated to
our community as a fire
fighter, business owner and a
Christian. I have lived a spec
tacular life with many lessons
learned. I love community
functions and believe our
community is so fantastic. I
have a strong will to serve the
people and look forward to
future challenges.
Candidate questionnaire
1. As a business owner it
makes me tend to think con
solidation would better our
community. However, the
community has to agree as a
whole and research is needed
to make a decision on these
matters. Would the general
public be satisfied? I still need
to talk more with all of the
chiefs to fully understand all
the details.
2. Government is about
understanding your people
and leading them in a uni
formed direction. I feel the
absolute best when I am serv
ing my community that is my
duty. I will communicate and
promote our local govern
ment with honor and wel
come media to all functions.
A open door policy is always
good ethics and community
awareness is number one.
3. All issues brought before
me will be researched and I
will get all the information I
can before I will act on a de
cision. The decision I make
will be for the people in our
community. Every issue is
important.
