Veteran’s Day celebra
tions will be held in down
town Kingsland on Monday,
Nov. 11, starting with a pa
rade at 10 a.m. along U.S.
Highway 17 in downtown
Kingsland.
The parade, hosted by the
Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 8385, will step off in
front of Steffen’s restaurant
and end at Kingsland Veter
ans Memorial Park and
honors previous and current
members of the armed
forces.
Directly after the parade,
the dedication of the Spouse
House gazebo will be held
at the Kingsland Veterans
Memorial Park at 11 a.m.
The gazebo was funded by a
$5,000 Home Depot grant
and through memorial brick
sales.
Julie Davis, a World War
II spouse, will perform the
yellow ribbon cutting. All
military spouses in atten
dance are encouraged to
wear yellow to signify the
official dedication of the
pavilion and show support
and appreciation of all mili
tary spouses.
After the parade and ded
ication ceremony, there will
be a fried catfish dinner at
noon at the Kingsland
Depot Pavilion on East
King Avenue. Donations
will be accepted.

Navy League taking RSVPs
The Camden-Kings Bay
Council of the Navy League
of the United States will host
Cmdr. Chad Rowe, com
manding officer of the Kings
Bay Base Clinic, at its next
regular meeting and dinner
on Thursday, Nov. 14, at the
Magnolia Conference Center
on the Kings Bay Naval Sub
marine Base.
A reception will begin at 6
p.m., followed by dinner and
the program at 7 p.m.
Rowe will present a brief
ing about Navy medicine and
how the base clinic supports
the war-fighters and their
families.
The public is invited to at
tend along with the regular
membership.
All attendees must send the
advance dinner payment of
$25 per person to Cheryl
Aston, 103 Hallowes Drive
S., St. Marys, Ga. 31558. The
deadline to receive reserva
tions is Monday, Nov. 11.
Checks should be made
payable to “Camden - Kings
Bay Navy League.” The
names of all attendees should
be sent in order to coordinate
base access.
In addition to the presenta
tion, the meeting kicks off the
council’s annual collection of
personal care and other items
for the annual visit to the Vet
erans Hospital in Lake City,
Fla. Council members travel
to the VA hospital in early
December to visit with re
tired soldiers, sailors,
Marines, coasties and airmen
hospitalized during the holi
day season, express their
thanks for past service and
sacrifice and distribute thank
you bags containing donated
items.
Items requested for dona
tion include large print cross
word, word search, sudoku
and other books; shampoo
and conditioner; body wash;
coffee (3-pound cans); decks
of cards; board games (new);
HE laundry detergent; and
sugar-free candy. All dona
tions, including cash, which
will be used to purchase addi
tional items, can be dropped
off at the Nov. 14 and Dec. 1
council meetings. Donations
are tax deductible.

nity members who wish to
donate items or cash, or who
wish to participate in the Tues
day, Dec. 3, visit to the VA
hospital should contact coun
cil president Dave Burch at

tion can be provided.
