Obituaries
Iva C. Brown
BROWN — Iva C. Brown,
78, of St. Marys, passed away
Oct. 29, 2013, at Baptist Med
ical Center in Jacksonville, Fla.
Born Sept. 1, 1935, in Rin
con, she was the daughter of
the late Charles W. and Alma
Jones Ulmer. She was also
preceded in death by her hus
band, J. Harvey Brown, son,
Randy Brown, and sister, Lu
cille Thomas.
Mrs. Brown had resided in
Camden County for 66 years
and had been employed with
Tide Treasures and Walmart in
the jewelry department. She
was a den mother and enjoyed
painting, fishing, sewing, and
helping raise her grandchil
dren, whom she loved so
much. She was a member of
St. Marys First Baptist Church.
Graveside services were
held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov.
2, 2013, at Oak Grove Ceme
tery with Brother Gregg
Gardell officiating. The family
received friends from 6-8 p.m.
Friday Nov. 1, 2013 at Allison
Memorial Chapel in St. Marys.
Survivors include her son,
Gary “Uncle” Brown (Kathy) of
Woodbine; daughter-in-law,
Wanda Brown of St. Marys;
sister, Arlene Barrack (Bernie)
of Midlothian, Va.; three broth
ers, C.W. Ulmer (Dinah) of
Kingsland, Bernard Ulmer (Pa
tricia) of Brunswick, and Roy
Ulmer (Marie) of St. Marys;
two grandchildren, Angela
Brannen and Brittni Brown;
two great-grandchildren, Alec
Brannen and Alysa Brannen;
several nieces and nephews.
Allison Memorial Chapel of
St. Marys was in charge of
arrangements.
JOHNS — Harvey Elmer
Johns, 72, of Kingsland,
passed away Friday after
noon, Nov. 22, 2013, at his
residence following an ex
tended illness.
Born in Nahunta, his par
ents were the late Perry Johns
Sr. and Mattie Moore Johns.
He was also preceded in
death by three brothers, Ho
race, Jerry, and Earl Johns,
and one sister, Remonia
Johns.
He was a member of the
Kingsland First Baptist
Church. Harvey worked with
The Gilman Paper Company
as a press operator before his
health failed him. He also en
joyed hunting and fishing and
just loved the outdoors.
He is survived by his loving
wife of 27 years, Georgia
“Susie” Harris Johns of Kings
land; three daughters and
sons-in-law, Marion and Alan
Strickland, Denise and Randy
Rowell and Missy and Robbie
Cleland, all of Nahunta; and a
very special daughter of the
home, Cocoa Johns; two
brothers and sisters-in-law,
Ivey and Gail Johns of
Nahunta and Bo and Janet
Johns of Woodbine; a sister,
Louise Harris of Hoboken; six
grandchildren, Brandon, Jamie
and Erica Rowell, Hunter and
Byron Strickland and Blake
Cleland; also several nieces,
nephews and other relatives.
Visitation was held at 6 p.m.
Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at the
Frye Funeral Home in
Nahunta. Funeral services for
Mr. Johns were held at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, from
the chapel of Frye Funeral
Home with Rev. Chip Woodruff
and Charles Harris officiating.
Pallbearers were Brandon
Rowell, Hunter and Byron
Strickland, Charles, Roger,
David and Skipper Harris,
Derek Johns, George and
Jason Sapp.
Interment will be in the
family plot at Harris Ceme
tery in Nahunta.
Arrangements are with
Frye Funeral Home,
Nahunta. Sympathy may be
expressed by signing the
online registry at

SHEEDY — Bonnie S.
Sheedy, 53, of Kingsland,
died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013,
at Southeast Georgia
Health System, Camden
Campus.
Memorial services and in
urnment will be held at a
later date. Allison Memorial
Chapel of St. Marys is in
charge of arrangements.

Grant promotes wellness
among Kingsland staff
Kingsland has been se
lected by the Georgia Mu
nicipal Association (GMA) to
receive one of the Employee
Health Promotion and Well
ness Incentive grants
awarded statewide to pro
mote worksite programs de
signed to enhance the health
and wellness of city employ
ees and family members.
Awards are made to mem
bers of the GMA Georgia
Municipal Employees Bene
fit System (GMEBS) Life
and Health Insurance Fund,
underwritten by Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Georgia,
based on a city’s commit
ment to employee health and
demonstrated collaboration
with other community
groups and organizations en
gaged in health promotion.
As part of the grant
process, the city designated a
health promotion leader to
develop a workplace health
promotion action plan and to
attend a Local Government
Risk Management Services’
(LGRMS) High Impact
Health Promotion and Well
ness training session.
Wellness programs have a
demonstrated track record of
improving employee health
and quality of life while re
ducing medical claims and
improving workplace
morale. The GMA offers
wellness services to all mem
ber cities through LGRMS,
a not-for-profit agency oper
ated jointly with the Associa
tion of County
Commissioners of Georgia.
Employees will be offered
a confidential health assess
ment program using a health
risk appraisal, with blood
pressure screening and
health improvement feed
back.
Lee Spell, Human Re
sources director, said, “We
are pleased that the Georgia
Municipal Association rec
ognizes our interest in em
ployee health and in manag
ing health care costs. This
grant will help us continue
our current efforts and pro
vide new programs to our
staff and their families.”
The GMA-GMEBS is
available to all GMA mem
bers. Approximately 153
cities, authorities and re
gional commissions cur
rently participate in the
health plan.
All cities, authorities and
regional commissions partic
ipating in the GMA-
GMEBS are eligible to apply
for the Health Promotion
and Wellness Incentive
grants on an annual basis.
