Resident charged with impersonating federal agent
Suspect followed victim from

A St. Marys man was ar
rested Monday after he im
personated a law
enforcement officer last
week and struck a vehicle.
Steven Wayne Bickler, 45,
of St. Marys has been
charged with impersonating
a police officer, failure to re
port an accident, disorderly
conduct and leaving the
scene of an accident, which
are all misdemeanors.
The victim told a St.
Marys Police Department
officer that he was traveling
north on Interstate 95 Nov.
24 when a Dodge SUV
driven by Bickler came up
behind him at a high rate of
speed and nearly struck his
vehicle several times, ac
cording to the incident re
port.
Leaving the interstate at
Exit 1, the victim traveled
east on St. Marys Road and
Bickler followed, briefly
pulling into a gas station,
then once again tailing the
victim.
The victim pulled into the
parking lot at Osprey Cove
at about 8 p.m. and Bickler
followed and blocked his ve
hicle, the report shows.
Bickler got out of his SUV
and held his right hand be
hind his back and at his side
near his waist as if he had a
weapon, according to what
the victim and a witness told
police. Bickler approached
the victim’s vehicle, saying
he was a federal agent and
told the victim to get out of
his car.
The victim told police he
smelled alcohol on Bickler
and that Bickler tried to re
strain him. The witness said
Bickler twisted the victim’s
arm and slammed him
against his vehicle. The vic
tim pushed Bickler when he
tried to restrain him and
Bickler fell.
Bickler rose and told the
witness, a security officer for
the subdivision, that the vic
tim had drugs in his car.
Bickler got back into his car,
dropping his glasses and
cellphone and the victim
moved his vehicle to attempt
to block Bickler until the po
lice arrived. Bickler backed
into the victim’s vehicle and
left.
SMPD officer Bilaal
Muhammad responded and
collected the phone and-
glasses from the scene. The
phone rang several times
and Muhammad answered,
telling the caller that he
needed to speak with the
owner of the phone. The
caller provided Muhammad
with Bickler’s address and
Muhammad attempted to
make contact with him.
