Gulfstream employees
teach Camden students
Approximately 80 students
from St. Marys and Camden
middle schools attended
Gulfstream Brunswick’s sec
ond annual Aviation Career
Day on Dec. 4.
The event was intended to
introduce eighth-grade stu
dents to the many diverse
skills required to build,
maintain and support Gulf
stream business jets.
Mike Creo, senior man
ager, human resources at
Gulfstream Brunswick, said
that Aviation Career Day,
which started in 2012 at
Brunswick, is a great way to
promote education.
“The kids we have at Avi
ation Career Day— eighth-
graders — are getting ready
to pick their classes for high
school,” Creo said. “I want
them to come here to Gulf
stream before they do that
so they will know there are
good-paying aviation jobs in
Glynn County.
“We want to reiterate the
importance of staying in
school and getting that high
school diploma,” he said.
“Not every job at Gulf
stream requires a college de
gree, but every job requires
graduating from high
school. Hopefully, some of
the students who visit us will
take particular interest in
what they saw here and pur
sue science, technology, en
gineering and math (STEM)
classes in high school and
beyond. Focusing on these
STEM subjects will help
them prepare for careers at
companies such as Gulf
stream.”
The Camden County stu
dents who visited Gulf
stream Brunswick toured the
facility, listened to employ
ees discuss their work and
took part in hands-on proj
ects that included assem
bling a sheet metal box,
installing wiring harnesses,
learning how to safety wire
and building and test-flying
a paper airplane.
Gulfstream Brunswick
held an Aviation Career Day
for middle school students
from Glynn County on Dec.
3 and 5. Overall, more than
220 middle school students
visited the facility this
month.
