I pray that God, the source of hope, will
fill you completely with joy and peace because
you trust in him. Then you will overflow with
confident hope through the power of the Holy
Spirit. Romans 15:13 (NLT)
Hope — a little four-letter word that
would satisfy the deep searching and
longing of so many people. There was a
very popular song by Johnny Lee from
the movie “Urban Cowboy” that says:
“I was looking for love in all the wrong
places, looking for love in too many faces,
searchin’ their eyes, lookin’ for traces of
what I’m dreaming of... ”
Where are you looking to fill that void?
Are you looking in relationships? It is
sad to say but people will let you down
so you can’t place your hope there. Are
you looking for an imitation of hope or
a temporary satisfaction through addic
tions? Or, some may look to fill the de
sire for peace, joy and hope through their
careers, wealth and even social status. No
matter where you look you will soon re
alize that any substitute for hope is short
lived. Looking for hope in any of these
areas will only leave you frustrated, tired
and lonely.
There is no man or woman that can be
what America or this world needs. You
can’t even look within yourself to find
the peace that you are longing for. There
is that line of thinking in the world that
promotes that you can empty yourself
out, meditate and find an inner peace
through your own centering internally.
Can we be honest with ourselves and say
that none of this stuff has worked? There
is only one source that can be all that we
need. There is only one that love, joy,
peace and hope flows from — it is God!
He is all that we need.
So why do we keep looking everywhere
else? I believe that it is because looking to
God for that deep longing of hope, secu
rity, love and identity seems just too sim
ple. Sometimes, the most obvious place
to look is where we go to as a last resort.
Or, maybe people look everywhere else
except to God because they have only ex
perienced religion instead of relationship.
Whatever may be the reason as to why
you have never looked to the source of
hope — God Almighty — is not for me to
know. Only you can answer that question.
Only you can stop where you are and ex
amine your heart and life. I can only do
as the Apostle Paul and pray that you will
be filled with the source of hope — God
himself.
Let’s purpose in our hearts today to
unite together in prayer as individuals, as
a community and as a nation to pursue
peace, love, joy and hope through a re
lationship with Jesus. I pray that we will.
