Gallery showcases Jones’ 30
paintings in 30 days project
This September, Olde
Towne Gallery is presenting
“30 Paintings — One Paint
ing a Day” done by local art
ist Maryjane Jones.
“I love to paint and I paint
nearly every day,” Jones said.
While Jones is usually
painting for a commission,
an art competition or for a
vendor space, these 30 paint
ings are different.
“Most days I was not sure
what I was going to paint
until I got in front of the
easel,” Jones said. “I would
reflect on the day or previous
days and often draw inspi
ration from that: the beach
sunflowers on Jekyll that I
saw when I took my son bike
riding, the afternoon we saw
hummingbirds zip around
the feeder for what seemed
like hours and an evening
walk on the beach at Sea Is
land.
“Some paintings served
as an opportunity to revisit
a previous subject matter
but using a different color
palette, technique or ap
proach,” Jones added. “I am
fascinated with wings and
movement so that is some
thing I studied several times
over the course of the 30
days.
“Each painting was com
pleted in one sitting, usually
in under an hour. On days
where I had more time to
devote, I painted larger. It is
all about technical growth,
pushing creativity and revi
talizing myself an artist. It is

so much fun. It is amazing
what you can accomplish in
30 days.”
This artist, a New Orle
ans native, has developed
a distinct and colorful style
based on her background
with science as well as her
art studies. Her attention to
detail gives viewers a sense
of personal interaction with
the subjects while her loose
brush strokes give a sense of
movement and depth.
Jones uses her background
in biology to capture the
beauty of the natural world
in unique ways. Her work
is permeated with hope and
a sense that the wonders of
our world need to be ex
plored and preserved.
She has been an award
winner in the St. Marys
Plein Air competition for the
past three years.
The work of Jones as well
as that of many other local
artists can be seen at Olde
Towne Gallery daily from
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery
is located next to Cedar Oak
Cafe at 304 Osborne St. in
downtown St. Marys.

Registry open for
those who need
help
With the 2017 hurricane
season underway, public
health officials strongly en
courage residents who may
have functional, access or
medical needs and no way to
evacuate if a storm is coming
to register with the Camden
County Health Department.
The Functional, Access
and Medical Needs Registry
is made up of residents who
may require transport and
medical assistance during
a hurricane evacuation and
have no other resources such
as family, friends, neighbors
or church members to help
them if they need to evacu
ate. Residents must apply to
be on the registry.
Those on the registry will
be evacuated to an Amer
ican Red Cross shelter in
an inland county that will
likely be in a gymnasium or
similar setting and could be
several hours away. The reg
istry is truly a last resort but
if a hurricane is threatening
the area, it is important that
health department officials
know where the most vul
nerable residents are located
so that evacuation assistance
can be provided to them.
Functional and access
needs registrants are individ
uals who may need services
to maintain their indepen
dence in a shelter. This in
cludes children and adults
with physical, sensory, men
tal health and cognitive and/
or intellectual disabilities af
fecting their ability to func
tion independently without
assistance.
Medical needs registrants
are individuals who require
support of trained medical
professionals. This includes
those individuals who may
need assistance with man
aging unstable, terminal or
contagious conditions that
require observation and on
going treatment.
To apply, residents should
call the health department
at (912) 882-8515 or (912)
576-3040. The application
and protected health infor
mation authorization form
may also be downloaded at
gachd.org/registry.
PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING A PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX INCREASE
The Kingsland City Council today announces its intention to increase the 2017 property
taxes it will levy this year by 13.94% over the rollback millage rate.
The proposed budget includes an additional 1.00 mill to dedicate funds for
public safety operations and .04 mills for general fund operations.
When the total digest of taxable property is prepared Georgia law requires that a rollback
millage rate must be computed that will produce the same total revenue on the current
year's digest that last year's millage rate would have produced had no reassessments
occurred.
The budget tentatively adopted by the Kingsland City Council requires a millage rate
higher than the rollback millage rate; therefore, before the Kingsland City Council may
finalize the tentative budget and set a final millage rate, Georgia law requires three
public hearings to be held to allow the public an opportunity to express their opinions on
the increase.
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at
the Kingsland City Hall, 107 South Lee Street, Kingsland, Georgia on September 14, 2017
at 6:00PM and on September 25, 2017 at 10:00AM and 6:00PM.

"NOTICE OF PROPERTY TAX INCREASE"
The City of St Marys has tentatively adopted a millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by .64% (.038
mills) over the roll-back rate (5.962).
All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearings on this tax increase to be held at City of St. Marys City Hall, 418
Osborne Street, in the Council Chambers.
The time and place of the public hearing on this tax increase is on September 27 at 6:00pm.
The millage rate will be set at a scheduled council meeting on September 27th at 6:00pm.
The tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 6 mills, an increase of .64% mills above the roll-back rate. Without this
tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 5.962 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair
market value of $100,000 is approximately a $1.52 per year (40% Assessed Value $40,000 * .038 per $1,000).
Pursuant to the requirements of O.C.G.A. 48-5-32.1, the City of St. Marys does hereby publish the following
presentation of the current year's tax digest and levy along with the history of the tax digest and levy
for the past five years. The proposed millage rate of 6.000 reflects an increase in the rate of .038 mills for 2017.
