2 Corinthians
4:7
7 But we have this treasure iu earthen vessels, that the excellen
cy of the power may be of God, and not of us.
We are the earthen vessels who are sought by the Lord today,
that we may be used of Him to minister to the lost, discouraged,
and, and downtrodden among us. Though dusty and seemingly
forgotten, you are precious to the Lord, and you have great worth
in the eyes of the Master.
My friend, won’t you allow the Lord to use you today? Let Him
gently lift you and fill you with His goodness and blessings. May
it then overflow, watering all you come to know with the sweet
waters of heaven where His tender mercies flow.
The Watered Lilies
-Author Unknown
The Master stood in His garden,
Among the lilies fair,
Which His own right hand had planted,
And trained with tend'rest care.
He looked at their snowy blossoms,
And marked with observant eye
That the flowers were sadly drooping,
For their leaves were parched and dry.
"My lilies need to be watered,"
The Heavenly Master said;
"Wherein shall I draw it for them,
And raise each drooping head?"
Close to His feet on the pathway,
Empty, and frail, and small,
An earthen vessel was lying,
Which seemed no use at all;
But the Master saw, and raised it
From the dust in which it lay,
And smiled, as He gently whispered,
"This shall do My work today."
"It is but an 'earthen' vessel,
But it lay so close to Me;
It is small, but it is empty-
That is all it needs to be."
So to the fountain He took it,
And filled it full to the brim;
How glad was the earthen vessel
To be of some use to Him!
He poured forth the living water
Over His lilies fair,
Until the vessel was empty,
And again He filled it there.
He watered the drooping lilies
Until they revived again;
And the Master saw with pleasure.
That His labor had not been vain.
His own hand had drawn the water
Which refreshed the thirsty flowers;
But He used the earthen vessel
To convey the living showers.
And to itself it whispered,
As He laid it aside once more,
"Still will I lie in His pathway,
Just where I did before.
"Close would I keep to the Master,
Empty would I remain,
And perhaps some day He may use me
To water His flowers again."

When life ends unexpectedly
The pain is too great to bear.
No chance to say a last
goodbye, unable to prepare.
The bravest thing that we
can do is to try to understand.
That even though it’s very
hard, it was always God’s plan.
We cannot change what’s
come to pass,
We can only move on.
We know you would have wanted that.
Be strong and face the dawn,
You’ll always live within our heart, forever by our side.
We take comfort in your memory,
Where you will always abide.
Now as we move on with our lives, knowing what we
know,
Tomorrow isn’t promised us, so our love we’ve got to show.
Jeremy, our memories of you never fade, we love and miss
you every day.

“The Young Man,
Joshua”
My biblical namesake, Joshua, was the great military
leader of Israel during the conquest of Canaan. God used
Joshua to subdue and wipe out most of the Canaanites, to
prepare the land for the people of Israel. I think the most
famous story involving Joshua was the Battle of Jericho,
where the people of Israel marched around the walls of
that impenetrable city for seven days, and then the walls
came crashing down. We even learned that song as chil
dren, “Joshua fought the battle of Jericho!”
When we think of Joshua, we think about the finished
product, the commander of Israel that was strong and cou
rageous and led Israel in military victory. What we miss
is the young man, Joshua. There is a story in Exodus that
is overlooked but gives us tremendous insight into how
Joshua became the leader of Israel. This story is found in
Exodus chapter 33.
In Exodus 33, the Bible describes the tent of meeting, a
special tent that Moses pitched outside the camp where he
would go to meet with God in prayer. Exodus 33:11 says
this about the tent of meeting, “The Lord would speak with
Moses’ face to face, just as a man speaks with his friend,
then Moses would return to the camp. His assistant, the
young man Joshua son of Nun, would not leave the inside
of the tent.” Moses would come and speak with the Lord,
and then leave to deliver God’s message to Israel, but
Joshua stayed!
Joshua lingered in the presence of God. What does it
mean to linger? Linger = to stay in a place longer than nec
essary because of a reluctance to leave. Joshua stayed in
the Lord’s presence, longer than necessary, because he was
reluctant to leave. He enjoyed the presence of the Lord,
and didn’t want to leave, so he stayed longer. He lingered.
Are you lingering?
There are three important ingredients to spiritual matu
rity, or growth in Jesus: knowledge, experience, and time.
Knowledge is Bible time - at church, personal study, small
group, listening to sermons, reading good articles about
Jesus. Experiencing is practicing obedience and serving.
Time is positioning ourselves in God’s presence and lin
gering there. We cannot grow without lingering. Are you
lingering?
Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the
world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden.” Have
you ever owned a solar light? You take it out in the sun
and let it charge, and once it is fully charged you can
take it into the darkest place and shine its light there. In a
sense, Christians are like solar lights that need the sun to
shine brightly. When we linger in God’s presence we are
recharging in the presence of the Son. Then we can go out
and be the light of the world.
Are you lingering? I want to challenge you to linger
longer this year. Make a choice to give God more of your
time, to position yourself in God’s presence and let His
presence change you. The young man Joshua lingered, and
God transformed him into the leader of Israel, who saw the
walls of Jericho fall. What can God do in you and through
you if you will linger in His presence?
