"Nourishing our
Souls"
Over winter some house plants don’t survive, especially
if they were left out on the porch. The icy conditions remind
everyone that plants need a good environment to grow and
prosper. If a plant is put in a closet with no sunshine or
water, then it won't survive. If a plant gets too much water,
then it doesn't do well. Proper care and regular attention
make plants, flowers, and trees fruitful.
All living things need nourishment and it's the same for
our souls. When we pray and read our Bibles, we bring
spiritual sunshine and moisture into the garden of our
hearts. We can choose to let our soul get dry and barren but
it's much better when we let the sun perk us up daily. We
also benefit from weekly times of worship and fellowship
with other believers. Also, spiritual songs put a spring in
our step and inspire us to keep on learning and improving.
When someone spends time regularly reading the Bible,
learning more about God and putting into practice what he
or she leams, then they get stronger and healthier spiritually
like a big, tall tree. "But his delight is in the law of the
LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall
be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth
its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and
whatever he does shall prosper," (Psalm 1:2-3).
Even though Paul was a mature Christian, he wanted to
stay healthy and keep on making progress in being more
like Christ until he went to Heaven. "Not that I have already
attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may
lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of
me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended;
but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind
and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I
press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of
God in Christ Jesus," (Philippians 3:12-14).

PAL
On Saturday, July 29 th , several churches will join to show
the love of Christ through the city of Millen. #LoveMillen is
a vision that came out of the annual spring community revival
that has been held for the last two years at the Pal Theater. The
organizers of the revival, Robert Johnson, Cam Wiggins, and
Brad Asbury cast a vision for a one-day outreach that would
seek to show love to others in a tangible way. To make this day happen members of New Testament Church Millen, Elam
Baptist, Millen Baptist, and others have signed-up to be part of the day.
Participants will gather at Millen Baptist Church at 8:00 AM and will go throughout the city sharing Christ. There will be
several activities taking place from 8:00-12:00 on that day. One such activity will be a completely free car wash will also
take place at Millen Baptist Church; no donations will be accepted. Other activities will be seen throughout the community.
At 6:30 PM, the community is invited to the Pal Theater. Hotdogs and chips will be served. Then a worship service will
take place. The worship service will include an extended time of prayer for the Jenkins County School System. In addition,
teachers and staff will be presented with gifts to prepare them for the new school year. Teachers will be given bags that will
be full of pencils, composition notebooks, and glue sticks that they will use to hand out to students as they need.
If you would like to donate school supplies to be given to teachers, you can contact Pastor Brad Asbury at 478-331-0018 or
email at pastorbradasbury@gmail.com. Or, if you would like to come and be involved in the day or for further information,
please use the same contact information.

“Sunlight”
Psalm 34:8 - Oh, taste
and see that the Lord is
good! Blessed is the man
who takes refuge in Him.
Here’s the $10 word of
the day - phototropism.
Phototropism is the
scientific term for plants
turning toward sunlight.
Place a plant in a pot
or in the ground, and it
will turn toward sunlight.
Even mature plants
have been shown to turn
toward sunlight. This
fantastic phenomenon
occurs when plants
elongate the cells in the
stem that is furthest from
the light. Plants literally
stretch themselves
toward the sun. Why?
Because they cannot
live without sunlight
- it is their source of
sustenance, growth, and
reproduction.
Just like plants are
made to stretch toward
the sunlight, we were
created to long for God.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says
that God “has put eternity
into man's heart”. What
this means is that we are
eternal beings with an
eternal thirst for God, and
we go through life trying
to fit things in the eternal
space that only God can
fill. Because of the reality
of sin, our souls are like
5-gallon buckets with
small holes in the bottom
- you can fill up the bucket,
but it doesn’t stay full.
This is why the Psalmist
says, “Taste and see that
the Lord is good!” God is
what we long for!
Psalm 34:8 goes on
to say, “Blessed is the
man who takes refuge in
Him!” Refuge means “to
flee to” or literally to run
towards. If dumb plants
know their need for sun
and stretch toward the
sunlight, how much more
do we as humans created
in the image of God need
to run toward Him? We
need God more than all
the plants on Earth need
the sun. He is the only
thing that satisfies our
souls for all eternity.
Taste and see that the
Lord is good - like a
child tasting ice cream
for the first time and
saying “More, more,
more!” Take one step
toward God and you will
find that you want to take
another. Consider the
plants, and learn from
them - they feel their
need, they feel the source
that abundantly meets
their need, and they
move toward it!
