The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green
pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He re-
storeth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righ
teousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear
no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they
comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the
presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head
with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and
mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I
will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

The
Mercy
God
By Sam Eades, Publisher/Writer
for
The Times
Earlier in the week I was reading my Mother's Bible, and
I found a place where she had written, "the mercies of God
never fail, it's never blind, and it is always there for me."
It was located next to the scripture. Lamentations 3:22-
23. "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his
mercies never come to an end. They are new every morning,
great is your faithfulness." My Mother was really good at
taking notes during a sermon, bible study or while she was
studying scripture on her own. I have to say, it is a treasure
to have her Bible with all the notes written in her own hand
writing. It is almost like she is speaking to me.
I realized after reading this very poignant message, that
everyone of us should realize that it is true. Sometimes, I
can take God's mercy for granted. I am sure you do too.
But, taking the time to thank Him for the mercies he has
shown to us through his blood is something we should be
doing every morning and we should tell everyone we come
in contact with. It is tme. "His mercies do endure forever."
The hymn for this week speaks just about that. "The
Mercy of God."
"The Mercy of
God" was written
by John Stocker.. I
believe John has a
significant place in
the realm of hymn
writing, known
for his heartfelt
compositions that
have enriched
Christian worship
and deepened the
spiritual lives of
believers. His hymns,
characterized by
John Stocker their poetic beauty,
superb insight, and
themes of worship
and devotion, continue to resonate with worshipers around
the world.
John Stocker was bom in London on June 25, 1749, into a
family with a strong Christian background. His upbringing
instilled in him a deep reverence for God and a commitment
to living out his faith. Stocker’s exposure to Scripture and
hymnody from a young age laid the foundation for his own
contributions to the world of worship through song.
As a young man, Stocker felt a calling to ministry and
dedicated himself to the study of theology. His experiences
in pastoral ministry and his personal encounters with God’s
presence would later inspire his hymn writing, allowing
him to connect with the hearts and minds of all worshipers.
Stocker’s hymns were rooted in theological depth with a
keen understanding of Scriptures.
As we sing John Stocker’s hymns and reflect on his words,
we are invited to engage in heartfelt worship, draw closer
to God, and experience the transformative power of poetic
expression. Stocker’s legacy challenges us to cultivate a
spirit of devotion, seek a deeper understanding of Scripture,
and allow our creative gifts to become instruments of
worship and spiritual growth.
Please sing with me if you know it, or just read the words
for encouragement.
1 Thy mercy, my God, is the theme of my song.
The joy of my heart, and the boast of my tongue;
Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last.
Has won my affections, and bound my soul fast.
2 Thy mercy, in Jesus, exempts me from hell;
Its glories I’ll sing, and its wonders I’ll tell;
’Twas Jesus, my Friend, when he hung on the tree.
Who opened the channel of mercy for me.
3 Without thy sweet mercy I could not live here;
Sin soon would reduce me to utter despair;
But, through thy free goodness, my spirits revive.
And he that first made me still keeps me alive.
4 Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart.
Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart;
Dissolved by thy goodness, I fall to the ground.
And weep to the praise of the mercy I found.
5 The door of thy mercy stands open all day.
To the poor and the needy, who knock by the way.
No sinner shall ever be empty sent back.
Who comes seeking mercy for Jesus’s sake.
6 Great Father of mercies, thy goodness I own.
And the covenant love of thy crucified Son;
All praise to the Spirit, whose whisper divine
Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine.
