“Smile and the world
smiles with you.”
We recently attended an Elder Rights Conference and
participated in a program on older adult scams. It is
estimated that millions of older adults from all walks
of life encounter hamiful scams each year.
If we think of society as a building that supports our
wellbeing, then it makes sense to design the sturdiest
building we can - one with beams and a solid foundation
and walls necessary to keep everyone safe from scams
and healthy as we age. We have organizations like
consumer protection service agencies that work to stop
scams and make sure companies, banks and lenders
treat us fairly.
But is it a scam??? Is the sales person using high
pressure sales tactics? Scams often say things like,
‘Act now!”; “Time is mnning out!”; “This is a onetime
offer!” Are you being told that you won a contest
that you didn’t even enter? Lottery and sweepstakes
scams almost always start this way. You can’t win a
contest if you didn’t enter! Have you been scammed
I the past? Often scam victims have their personal
contact information sold to other con artists. You may
get unsolicited calls from people promising to get your
money back or provide other remedies or offers. These
offers can be scams too. Beware! You may receive
phone calls for services that you were not seeking.
Sometimes scams begin with someone knocking on
your door offering services or sending out promotional
materials. This often happens I n the case of home
repair scams. Sometime you may be contacted over
the phone by the “police”. Some scams begin with a
person pretending to be a police officer who tells you
that they are concerned that you have been a victim
of a crime. They then proceed to solicit your personal
information. In tmth, the police will contact you in
person if they have questions for you or believe that
you have been a victim of a crime.

The Jenkins County School System, working w ith law enforcement officials, has
implemented a Clear Bag Policy at Roy Head Stadium and the Jenkins County Schools
Performance Gym.
While we encourage fans to not bring any type of bags, outlined below is what will be
permissible to carry into the stadium should a bag be necessary:
■ Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12.” Or
■ One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar).
■ Small clutch bags, approximately the size of a hand (no larger than 4.5” x 6.5”),
with or without a handle or strap can be taken into the stadium.
■ Fans can still carry items such as binoculars, smart phones, tablets, and camera, so
long as they are not in a bag or carrying case.
■ Seat cushions - no wider than 16” will still be permitted into the venues.
Upon entry of Roy Head Stadium and the JCSS Performance Gym for any event, all
patrons will be required to enter through Metal Detectors monitored by law’ enforcement.
Please see below r :
Jenkins County Athletics Clear Bag Policy Items Approved For Entry
Oneg*uhi,up-waiabir de-ar Items Not Approved; Camera Case, Binoculars Case, Back Pack, Mesh Bag, Tinted Plastic Bag,
Diaper Bag, Oversiied Tote, Printed Pattern Plastic Bag, or any items
described in the JCMHS Weapons Policy.
Shred junk mail, old bills, bank statements and any other
documents that have personal information.
It is ok to be rude. If a sales person calls or comes to your door
and seems to not take no for an answer, close the door or hang
up the phone. You don’t have to let yourself be pressured into
anything.
Never sign anything that you don’t understand. Have a trusted
person to assist you.
Everyone has a right to safety and to be protected from scams.
