Millen, GA - In
the early hours of
Tuesday, September
26th, 2023, the
tranquility of
Johnson Street
in Millen was
shattered as local
fire crews mshed
to respond to a
house fire at 227
Johnson Street. The
blaze brought a sudden and heart-
wrenching start to the day for
homeowner Michael Strong.
Strong explained to authorities
that he had recently hung a
television on the wall in the back
bedroom and suspected that the
cord may have had a short circuit.
Firefighters from the Millen
area were quick to arrive on the
scene, but the flames had already
taken hold, resulting in significant
damage. The mobile home
suffered a devastating 75% loss.
Fortunately, the quick response
from the fire crews confined
the inferno to the bedroom,
preventing further destmction.
As firefighters worked
diligently to contain and
extinguish the flames, the Red
Cross was notified to provide
immediate assistance to Mr.
Strong during this trying time.
Their support will help him
navigate the difficult period of
recovery and rebuilding that lies
ahead.
It is not yet clear if a fund has
been established to aid him in
the aftermath of this catastrophe.
However, many residents and
neighbors have expressed their
willingness to help in any way
they can.
The strength of a community
often shines brightest during
moments of adversity, and the
willingness to lend a hand to a
neighbor in need is a testament to
the compassion and resilience of
Millen's residents.
