Parents are obligated
There is limited information in Scripture that describes
the home life of Jesus. Every now and then we get a glimpse
of something. But there can be little doubt that God and His
teachings were at the center of everything.
We read that “Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature
and in favor with God and man.” No doubt His knowledge
of and reverence for the Law and Prophets shaped His
life and His reverence and relationship with His Heavenly
Father and others.
Luke’s Gospel tells us about a family trip to the temple.
On the way home, they noticed that He was not with them.
When they returned to the temple they found Him listening
to and answering questions of the learned teachers. At the
tender age of twelve Jesus demonstrated to others the deep
understanding of God’s Word that obviously came from His
parents.
Mary and Joseph realized that they were obligated to
God for the welfare and wellbeing of His one and only
Son. While He was waiting to begin His public ministry
He listened to their teachings and followed their examples
of godly living.
Parents can never overlook or underestimate the influence
and impact they have on their children. Parents must follow
the example of Joseph and Mary in raising their children.
Prayer: We pray. Father, that parents will realize the
important gift of a child and the trust You place in them to
raise them to know, love, trust, obey and serve You. In Jesus’
Name, Amen.
Scripture For Today: Luke 2:52 And Jesus increased in
wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

"An Empty Frame "
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I
have kept the faith. - 2 Timothy 4:7ESV
Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden kept
an empty picture frame on his desk. That empty
picture frame was a visual reminder of a goal that he
had set and was working towards - to win a national
championship. When he won his first national
championship, he put the picture in the frame. The
national championship goal determined every daily
decision he made and carried out as the coach. What
they did in the offseason, preseason and regular
season all determined what happened at the end of
the season. Every smaller goal led to the final goal -
national championship, and the empty picture frame
kept him focused.
Paul had one overarching goal for his life - to
finish well. He had many goals that fed into that
one goal - “I want to know Him”, “Imitate me as I
imitate Christ”, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel for
it is the power of God unto salvation.” His life goal
was to glorify God by doing everything God had for
him in his life.
Another example of finishing well is seen in the
life of Jesus on earth. Jesus’s first recorded words in
the New Testament were “didnt you know I would be
about my Father’s business?” and His last were “It
is finished.” Jesus had one goal - to do His Father’s
will while He was on earth.
Paul lived now, so that he could say later, at the
end of his life, “I have fought the good fight, I have
finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Jesus lived
wholly for His Father’s will. Do we live that way
today? What matters most to you? How we live
now determines what we can say at the end. The
decisions we make today determine where and how
we will spend eternity.
Do you have an empty frame on your desk? Do
you have a goal that’s in front of you - something that
propels you toward the end? Something to motivate
you daily and keep the end in mind? As the calendar
turns from 2023 to 2024, think about what your
empty frame represents. Where do you need to grow
with the Ford this year so that you can say what Paul
said? What is God’s will for your life? What would
God have you do for His kingdom? What do you
need to do today to finish well in the end?
