Firefighters Contain Blaze
By Joe Brady, Editor
for
The Times
In a swift response on Saturday, January
20, fire crews with the Millen Fire
Department and North Jenkins Volunteer
Fire Department managed to contain a
house fire at 2013 Highway 23 North,
preventing it from becoming a total loss.
The incident was reported by residents
Chris and Nichole Moore, who informed
firefighters that the fire originated from a
heat lamp they had turned on in the back
bedroom to keep newborn puppies warm.
The quick action of the fire crews
limited the damage to the back two
bedrooms of the mobile home. Although
there was significant damage to those
areas, the rest of the home was spared,
and the firefighters were able to prevent
the flames from spreading further.
Chris and Nichole Moore expressed
their gratitude to the firefighters for
their prompt response and effective
containment of the blaze. The couple,
who were inside the residence at the time
of the incident, were able to evacuate
safely.
The cause of the fire is believed to be related to the heat lamp used for the newborn puppies. Firefighters
on the scene worked diligently to extinguish the flames and conducted a thorough investigation to ensure
that there were no lingering risks.
The community has rallied around the affected family, offering assistance and support during this
difficult time.
The incident highlights the importance of community and emergency response in ensuring the safety
and well-being of residents during unexpected events. The collaborative efforts of firefighters and the
community have once again demonstrated the strength and resilience of the local neighborhood in the face
of adversity.
James Allen Joins 1000 Point Club
By Brad Asbury, Sports Editor

After an exciting girls’ game on Saturday night, a special presentation occurred at center court at Jenkins
County High School. James Allen, a junior at JCHS, was joined by his family as he had, at a recent game,
entered the 1000-point club. To reach 1000 points in a player’s career is a difficult feat, to do it in under
three seasons is amazing. James joins another former War Eagle in the 1000 point club. Tyrone Brown
who was under Coach Whitt and later played at Georgia Southern.
James has never appeared to like to be in the spotlight, even though in his previous two seasons as a
War Eagle he has made all-region teams. If one were to watch James, one might not see all the points
he scores or the little things he does every night. He is not a flashy player, nor one to brag about his
accomplishments, every game he simply makes his team better.
When I was his assistant coach in middle school, I witnessed James score 46 points against Burke
County Middle School. He arrived back on the bus as if he had scored 2 points, he never made a big deal
about it nor celebrated his own accomplishment. As a 6th grader, on his first day of tryouts, I, along with
Head Coach Chris Anderson knew he was going to do something special for Jenkins County.
While it was a big night for James, he quickly went from the celebration to the sideline to join his team
for warmups before the game against Burke County. On Saturday night, it was a night like all the rest for
James. He came out and played hard and gave everything, as he does every game. However, this was not
just any night at Jenkins County High School, it was a special night as another player joined the few in
the 1000-point club!

basketball team. While this is a major accomplishment, the most astonishing thing is that it was
accomplished in 2 V2 seasons! Congratulations James Allen. Photo by Danielle M. Davis.
