The Super Bowl is right
around the comer. IN just
three short weeks. Super
Bowl 58 will be the first
Super Bowl in Las Vegas,
NV. Most predict it will be
the Baltimore Ravens vs
San Francisco 49ers. The
prediction is not based
upon records or the fact
that both teams are the
number 1 team in their
respective conference. The
reason some are giving is
the color scheme.
Conspiracy theorists,
and sometimes just simple
'‘sore losers” are now crying
‘foul” as the last two Super
Bowls have been between
teams that have matched
the color scheme. The logo
for the Super Bowl is drawn
out long before the teams
for the game are finalized.
If this year does feature
the 49ers and Ravens,
maybe there is something
to it. Or, just maybe, it is
a coincidence in sports!
Why would someone fix
a sporting event? I cannot
imagine money would ever
influence sports!
Speaking of money
influencing sports, kids in
college are making more
money in some instances
than NFL players. NIL
deals are funneling money
to student-athletes and
truly appear to be affecting
portal transfers, free-agent
signings, and recruiting.
Take for instance Arch
Manning, the 4th highest
paid college football player
who made 2.8 million
dollars in NIL deals. He
makes far more than Brock
Purdy, the quarterback
leading the NFL team the
49ers to one of the best
records in football. He
currently makes $870,000.
Keep in mind that Manning
has seen the field this
season while standing on
the sidelines.
Basketball, both college
and NBA is moving right
along. The college season
has about 1-2 months of
full play before conference
tournaments and March
Madness. This is an
exciting time of the year
for basketball fans.
Baseball is weeks away
from the first pitch in
Spring Training. We are 23
Under the
Bleachers
days from Spring Training
as I write this article on
January 21. Opening day is
only 67 days away. I must
say, I am counting down
the season. As the season
prepares for the first pitch,
I will be giving updates
and changes coming to the
2024 season!
These long winter days
and days it is far too cold to
go outside, our household
likes to take the time to
watch sports movies. Next
week, I am going to start
a top-10 countdown of
my favorite sports movies.
I will feature one or two
movies each week. Maybe
this will make for a great,
at-home movie night for
you and your family. There
are great sports movies
that are both true stories
and fiction. Some of my
favorites include Hoosiers,
Field of Dreams, Cool
Runnings, McFarland USA,
Little Giants, and Coach
Carter. There are many
others, and I will have to
narrow them all down to
get to the top ten. I may
put a poll online for you
to make your selections as
well.
Lastly, back to
wondering if the Super
Bowl is rigged or if it is
really between the teams
that owned it. It reminds
me of when Pilot, at the
crucifixion of Jesus when
he cried out, “What is truth.”
Herod was not looking for
the teams that would play
in the Super Bowl, but He
was using that question to
investigate truth. He was
using the question to mock
Jesus. Jesus is truth and
He is absolute truth. He
sets the standard of tmth.
Therefore, in Christ there
is no lying; He is who He
is. There is no deceit in
Christ, we can trust Him.
Therefore, go and follow
Him and worship Him.
Until next time, do not
go searching for Absolute
Truth unless you are in
the Bible. The Bible will
always point us to Jesus,
so take time and celebrate
Him today. Get out from
Under the Bleachers and
worship God in Spirit and
Truth!

On Saturday night, Burke
County would come to town! The
last few years have seen Burke
County Lady Bears dominate the
Lady War Eagles. The Bears have
won the previous 5 matchups
with the Lady War Eagles. On
this night, Burke County jumped
out to a quick 9-2 lead with some
good shooting and very stingy,
physical defense. However, after
a timeout, the ladies appeared to
have woken up. By the end of the
1st quarter, they were trailing by 6,
with a score of 15-9. The second
quarter was all about defense for
Jenkins County, allowing only 3
points in a physical battle. The
halftime score was 18-16 still in
favor of Burke County.
Just like the previous night, the
Lady War Eagles would enter the
final quarter trailing. They were
only down by three, but the lead
would swell to 9 with around four
minutes to play. Rather than give
up, the ladies fought harder in
those four minutes than they had
all game as the momentum swung
in their favor. With incredible
defense, big rebounds, and some
big baskets the Lady War Eagles
were able to chisel away the lead
and take the win 41-37.
The Lady War Eagles will take
the momentum of winning 3 out
of the last 4 and face McIntosh
County Academy and Treutlen on
the road. In a previous matchup
with Treutlen, the Lady War
Eagles won 59-39. This will be
the first time that they have met up
with McIntosh County Academy.
The next game at home will be
on January 30th when they host
number one ranked Montgomery
County.

The chance of a person being
struck by lightning two times is
said to be 1 in 9 million. While
it was much more likely that the
Lady War Eagles would defeat
rivals Portal and Burke County
than being struck by lightning,
how they won on both nights was
nothing short of amazing!
Friday night the Lady War
Eagles would host regional rival
Portal. The offense started very
slow as the Lady War Eagles only
scored ten points in the first half,
and seven of those were in the
first quarter. However, Portal only
put up 15 points
at the same time.
The Lady Eagles
drew closer in the
3rd quarter and
only trailed by
2 points. Portal
answered in the
4th quarter and
quickly extended
their lead. It
appeared that the
Panthers were
going to leave
with a victory.
With under
four minutes, and
the Lady War
Eagles trailing
by 9 points, high-
pressured defense,
and a comeback
was in the making.

points, and it was a free throw by
