First Regional Report
High school basketball is now at the heart of regional play.
Each team in Region 3 will play ten games for the boys and
eight games for the girls. At the end of the regular season,
based on their records, teams will be seeded for the regional
tournament. The top four finishing teams in the regional
tournament will advance to the state playoffs. Finishing first
or second in the season gives teams an automatic bye into the
state playoffs while playing for the regional championship.
Big regional matchups this week will include the Lady
War Eagles hosting the Montgomery County Lady Eagles on
Tuesday night at Jenkins County High School. The first time
they played this season, the Lady War Eagles fell short by a
score of 54-41. Montgomery County is presently undefeated
and ranked 1st in the state.
The big regional game among the boys this week will be
the Portal and McIntosh County Academy game that will
be played in Darien. Earlier in the season, the two played at
Portal and Portal won out by 13 points.
The Jenkins County boys’ and girls’ teams will travel to ECI
on Friday night. ECI has struggled all season in boys’ and girls’
basketball.
Until the end of the season, we will have weekly updates of
the regional standings leading us to the playoffs.
The Jenkins County War Eagles will take their 13-5
record into a busy week of basketball. On Tuesday night
they will host McIntosh County Academy, travel to
ECI on Friday, and close the week out at home against
Claxton on Saturday night. In this photo, Junior Tyler
