Fishing with Jack
When it comes to my fishing gear, I have been called a junkie, a
fishing addict, and a fisherman with a horder problem. If you would
walk through my garage, you would see why. It is defmtely safe to
say that I have always liked tools that help me catch more fish and
be more efficient on the water. Day by day this fishing obsession of
mine, gets even more crazed when it comes to lures and accessories.
I wanted to take time to list some of my favorite new baits and
accessories that I have discovered. The Z-Man HellraiZer topwater
chatterbait, Biwaa Kapsiz Kast HD 9, Yo-Zuri 3DB Pencil Popper
110, Berkley PowerBait PowerStinger, a Frabill Witness Weigh Net,
and some new, Smith Embark Sunglasses. These are just a few of the
new items I have found that are working fantastic this time of year.
If you combined a stickbait with a chatterbait, you’d get the
Z-Man HellraiZer. The lure comes in several colors, but the shade that
caught my attention was a slick matte black. The chatterbait blade
and tail on hang off the back of the HellraiZer and run beneath the
surface, while the body of the bait sits on top. This gives the lure a
great wobble; I was impressed with its action in the water. You can
retrieve HellraiZer fast or slow, but when I get my hands on one of
these, I’m anxious to get back to the boat.
I’m a sucker for big swimbaits. In my experience, a big bait
equals a big fish, and the new Kapsiz Kast HD 9 from Biwaa is built
to catch big fish. I absolutely love the perch pattern, which should be
killer on lunker bass, monster pike, and giant muskies. The lure is a
pre-rigged, soft-plastic swimbait, and comes with a 2x swivel-rigged
treble hook and stainless steel through wire. It weighs 4.8 ounces and
is 9 inches long. Anglers can
pick up the Kapsiz Kast HD 9
swimbait this fall in your local
fishing store.
Now, for the Yo-Zuri 3DB
Pencil topper 110. I know
exactly where it got its name. It
looks just like the top of a pencil.
Some of my friends have said it
looks like a pen you would push
open. However, whatever it
looks like, it works superb. The
lure has a rattle and comes with
two sets of three treble hooks.
With this lure you should never
loose any fish.
The others I listed are also
great to use. I find that using
different types of lures or bait,
makes for a great day of fishing
You can also just find what you
like and stick with it. But as my
Father always said, "you never
know what them fish are gonna
be biting".
Song oft He Ogeechee a must reach!
Recently while looking through a local antique store, I
found an old book called "The Song of the Ogeechee". The
book is based on a true story about two cousins who were like
brothers bom to families of affluent cotton planters in early
19th century Georgia who encountered set backs and ordeals
caused by the Civil War followed by other hardships during
the Reconstruction period. It continues after this period to
tell how they overcame problems and responded to adverse
conditions to be recognized for their efforts in a world that
was busy with industrial progress and social change. The Allen
cousins were bom in Burke County near Midville not far from
the Ogeechee River.
Dr. Young John Allen spent his life in China and when he
died, was well known throughout China, Korea, Japan, and
America for his achievements as a Methodist missionary in
China from 1860 to 1907. Capt. John R Allen spent his life in
Dawson and Terrell County, Georgia, and when he died was
well known throughout the South as a member of the 'Immortal
Six Hundred' and as a pioneer citizen and reputable jeweler in
Dawson.
The author attempts to tell this story for the first time to relate the amazing account of
heritage and inherited talent in the Allen family through the symbol of a silver chalice passed
on to descendants from 1857 and the magic of the Ogeechee River, the Indian name for
'River of Songs'.
If you get a cnance to pick up a copy of this wonderful book, please do
It is a treasure. I know that you will enjoy it.
