GUARD YOUR HEART
She was over eighty years old and went to work every
day. Though old in years, she was young at heart. She
made her way through life in a wheelchair and was very
successful in several different business ventures. She
was also well-known for being involved in doing kind
things for others who were going through difficult times.
“What caused you to end up in a wheelchair?” asked a
friend one day.
“Infantile paralysis,” she replied.
“My goodness! How do you cope?” the friend wondered,
“and why do you do so many kind things for so many
people?”
“Well,” she said with a gracious smile, “the paralysis
never touched my head or my heart.”
Our head is the door to our hearts. What we see, think,
and dwell upon shapes our feelings and is expressed in
what we do and the way we act.
It was the writer of Proverbs who expressed this truth so
well. “Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance,” he
wrote, “for out of it flow the springs of life.”
Our hearts, the source of our feelings of love and desire,
dictates the things that we do and say. How we live
and what we find time to do and enjoy all come from
“the inside” - our heart. Wisely Solomon advises us to
concentrate on those things that will reflect God’s love
to others. We must make sure that what matters most to
us leads us in the right direction and demonstrates our
concern for others. We can only do this if we focus on
putting God first.
Prayer: Help us, Heavenly Father, to look straight
ahead and keep our eyes focused on You. Keep us from
becoming sidetracked by things that would destroy us. In
Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Scripture For Today: Keep and guard your heart
with all vigilance for out of it flow the springs of life.
Proverbs 4:23
“Jesus was lifted up”
In John 3:14-15 Jesus said, “Just as Moses lifted up
the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be
lifted up, that whoever believes in Him may have eternal
life.”
Does anyone here like snakes? On an old tv show
called Fear Factor, contestants had to lie down in a clear
coffin-like container while live snakes were poured over
them. Does anyone here today want to sign up to do that?
At best, snakes don’t usually represent something good
and at worst, they are a terrifying fear of many. Yet in
John chapter 3, Jesus compares Himself to a snake!
In the Old Testament book of Numbers, God allowed
deadly, venomous snakes to attack the people of Israel
and many of them died. The people of Israel went to their
leader Moses and asked him to pray to God to deliver
them from the deadly snakes.
God’s answer to Moses was very strange! God told
Moses to make a bronze image of a snake, place it high
on a pole, and walk through the camp of Israel with
it. God said that everyone in Israel who looked at the
snake on the pole would immediately be healed from the
snake’s venom and their life would be saved! All a snake-
bitten, dying man had to do to be healed, was to turn his
eyes toward the snake on the pole.
Do you know what the quickest movement in the
universe is? The twinkling of an eye! The twinkling of an
eye is the time it takes for your eye to focus on something.
This tiny eye movement takes just one-billionth of a
second.
God made it so simple for the people of Israel to be
saved from the snake’s venom - all that they needed to do
was make one tiny eye movement that took one billionth
of a second. Do you know there were some in Israel who
still died from their snake bites?
Why? Because it took belief in God’s promise to look
at the snake. Everyone who believed, looked and lived.
All who did not believe, refused to look and died.
Jesus said that He would be lifted up just like the snake
on the pole was. Jesus was lifted up on the cross to die for
our sin. All who look at Him in faith will receive eternal
life, and all who refuse to look at Him will die in their sin.
Will you look at Him and be saved? It takes no effort
on your part to be saved, only faith in God’s word - that
He sent Jesus to die for your sin.

ll:OOam - Sunday Morning Praise & Worship
In a significant stride towards enhancing community
safety and well-being, the GFWC Millen Woman’s
Club, through the diligent efforts of Jessica Suggs,
Community Engagement & Outreach Chair, and
with the assistance of Wanda Black, has successfully
established a designated safe transaction zone in Jenkins
County.
Sheriff Robert Oglesby played a pivotal role in the
realization of this initiative, providing unwavering
support and assistance. Two parking spaces at the
Jenkins County Sheriffs Office have been reserved
for this purpose, adorned with signs to signify the safe
transaction zone.
The newly designated area serves as a secure and
protected environment for community members to
conduct various transactions. With an increasing
concern for personal safety, this initiative eliminates
the need to disclose home addresses or meet strangers
at unfamiliar locations, thereby reducing the risk of
individuals becoming victims of crime.
One of the primary advantages of this safe transaction
zone is its versatility. Beyond facilitating traditional
transactions, such as online purchases or exchanges,
the secure space can also be utilized for custody swaps,
ensuring a safe and neutral ground for such sensitive
matters. Additionally, individuals can use the zone for
the secure return of property, further contributing to
community safety.
Sheriff Oglesby expressed his appreciation for the
GFWC Millen Woman’s Club's commitment to
community welfare and emphasized the importance
of collaboration in fostering a safer environment. The
provision of designated spaces and the installation of
clear signage underscore the commitment of local law
enforcement to creating a secure and accessible area for
residents.
Community members are encouraged to embrace and
utilize this newly established resource. By prioritizing
safety and taking advantage of the safe transaction zone,
residents can contribute to the overall well-being of
Jenkins County.
The GFWC Millen Woman’s Club, along with Jessica
Suggs and Wanda Black, extend their heartfelt gratitude
to Sheriff Robert Oglesby and the entire community for
their support in making this initiative a reality. Together,
they are fostering a safer, more secure environment for
all residents of Jenkins County.
