Jlet him {fix it pn you
Yes, my friends, there is a hymn called "Let him fix it
for you". If you have never heard the hymn, it is to the
tune of another old hymn," If your life in days gone by".
I first heard this hymn at a country Church in the hills
of Tennessee.
You see, I was invited to sing at a revival in a small
Church in Tennessee, back in the early eighties. Actually, I
was only around 17, but had been singing around Georgia
for quite some time, and
singing m
Charles A. Tindley
had started
other states.
I can remember, as I
drove up the mountain
of this tiny town, it was
beautiful. It was fall and
the leaves were turning
and around seventy
degrees. As I drove up this
small dirt drive way, I see
the building at the top of
the mountain. A tiny little
white building with green
shutters and a fairly large
steeple, that seemed to be
larger than the building
itself. After meeting the
pastor, I was introduced to
the choir, that would sing
with me. There were about
20 choir members (which acutally surprised me) and they
really sounded good. They seemed to get better and better
as we rehearsed. But, I will say, they were defmtely a
good ole bluegrass singing group of folks. However, the
parts were there and they sounded fantastic!
Later that night as the revival was in full swing, we
sang the hymn, "Let him fix it for you". Well, all I can say,
they knew this song. The crowd sang to the top of their
lungs (packed house, by the way) and of course the choir
belted it! I have to say, it was fun. I had never heard this
hymn before, nor, have I ever even heard the name. My
favorite verse as I remember it, was, "and if some sin your
soul hath bound, with cords you can't undo, at Jesus' feet
go lay it down, and He will fix if for you." And of course
the chorus, "Let Jesus fix it for you, He knows just what
to do. Whenever you pray, let Him have His way, and he
will fix it for you."
The hymn was written by Charles Albert Tindley. Mr.
Tindley was bom in Berlin, Marland on July 7, 1851.
He was the son of Mr. Charles Tindley and Mrs. Hester
Tindley. His father was a slave, and his mother was free.
His Mother died when he was very young and he was
taken in by his mother's sister, Caroline Robbins, in order
to keep his freedom. Charles was expected to work to
take care of his family. In his book of sermons from 1932,
he speaks of being hired out as a young boy wherever his
father could place him. Mr. Tindley married at the age of
seventeen, he had eight children.
Charles was self taught. He learned to read on his own
and took correspondance courses toward becoming a
Methodist minister. In 1904, he became the pastor of East
Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church.
Tindley was known for being a captivating preacher,
and for also taking an active role in the betterment of the
people in his community. His songs were an outgrowth
of his preaching ministry. Charles A. Tindley died July
26, 1933.
May we all remember, lay any burden at the feet of
Jesus and He will "fix" it for you. Amen.
1 If your life in days gone by,
Has not been good and true,
In your own way no longer try,
But let Him fix it for you.
Refrain:
Let Jesus fix it for you,
He knows just what to do;
Whenever you pray, let Him have His way,
And He will fix it for you.
2 Perhaps your temper is to blame,
For many wrongs you do,
Take it to God in Jesus’ name,
And He will fix it for you. [Refrain]
3 If in your home the trouble is,
The course you should pursue,
Go talk with God, your hand in His,
And He will fix it for you. [Refrain]
4 And if some sin your soul hath bound
With cords you can’t undo,
At Jesus’feet go lay it down,
And He will fix it for you. [Refrain]
5 Maybe to you the world is dark,
And comforts far and few,
Let Jesus own and rule your heart,
And He will fix it for you. [Refrain]
