It was the first day in art class, and the professor wanted
to challenge his students to do something creative. Standing
before them, he suggested that they draw a picture that had
meaning and significance. Pausing for a moment, he turned
to one student and said, “And what, William, are you going
to draw?”
“I believe that I will draw a picture of Christ,” he replied.
“But,” said the professor, “no one knows what He looks like.”
“They will know what He looks like when I’m through,”
said William.
People may see a representation of Christ on canvas, paper,
or cloth, but God expects them to see Christ in us - by the
way we live. Scripture clearly explains, time and time again,
that the Christian is the one, not an artist, who is to provide a
“picture of what Christ looks like.”
Those around us who know we are Christians develop their
understanding and image of Christ by watching us: what we
do, how we live, what we say. They “read” about Christ in
how we act and react to the events that come into our lives.
They “see” Christ in what we do and how we do things for
others. Simply stated, we are responsible for showing those
around us His love.A Christian is to have a “mind” that thinks
as Jesus thought, a “heart” that breaks when the ravages of sin
are visible, a “hand” that reaches out to those in need, and a
“voice” through which He speaks to share His message.
Prayer: Our Father, You have given us a tremendous
responsibility to represent You to others. We admit we are
unable to do this unless we allow You to live through us. In
Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Scripture For Today: But those who obey God’s word truly
show how completely they love him. That is how we know we
are living in him. Those who say they live in God should live
their lives as Jesus did. 1 John 2:4-6
Cornbread, the
state bread of
Georgia?
By-Jordan Barela,

for
The Times
A staple side dish in
southern cuisine could soon
be kneaded into the Georgia
law books. A proposed bill
in the republican led house,
HB 1048, would designate
cornbread as the official state
bread.
The bill reads, “the colorful history and traditions of the
State are inextricably associated with the food traditions
of com. Cornbread enjoys a singular stature in Georgia
history and culture that is rivaled only by its undeniable
appeal as a versatile and satisfying food. Establishing
cornbread as the official state bread is necessary to fully
recognize the importance of this product to this state.”
If approved, cornbread will join the peach, Vidalia
onion, and grits in the ranks of state-designated foods.
Currently the bill has only been introduced in the Georgia
House.

“Jesus is the SoCicf Foundation”
In Luke 6:47-49, Jesus shared a parable about two houses:
Jesus said, “Everyone who comes to me and hears my
words and does them is like a man building a house, who
dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a
flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could
not shake it, because it had been well built. But the one who
hears my words and does not do them is like a man who
built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the
stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the rain of
that house was great.”
The most important part of a house is its foundation. The
foundation is not the most exciting part of a house, but it is
the most important part - because everything rests on the
foundation.
Jesus is the foundation and the rock that we must build
our lives on. How do we make Jesus our foundation?
Jesus said in this parable that we must come to Him and
hear His words to build our lives on the rock. Faith comes
by hearing the words of Jesus. Faith means believing His
words so strongly that our lives change because of His
words. The words of Jesus can be summarized in one
statement He made in Luke 9:23, “If anyone would come
after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily
and follow me.”
The life built on Jesus endures - it endures the floods of
life. Verse 48 says when the flood came. The flood comes
in different ways - temptation, money problems, sickness,
cancer, loss, death - but the life built on Jesus is not rained
or destroyed by the flood. Jesus is the Rock that the flood
breaks on.
The life built on Jesus endures. The marriage built on
Jesus endures. The family built on Jesus endures. The
children raised on Jesus endure. The faith placed in Jesus
endures.
What are you building your house on? Hearing Jesus’s
words and obeying them is building your life on solid rock.
Ignoring the words of Jesus is building your life on the sand.
