Under the
Bleachers
Another busy week of basketball and the Super Bowl is
just one week away. College basketball is just about five
weeks away from the conference tournaments, meaning
we are six weeks away from the exciting March Madness!
The weeks are passing by quickly for the college basketball
season and soon a champion will be crowned.
The Super Bowl will kick off on February 11th. The game
will be played between the San Francisco 49ers and the
Kansas City Chiefs. The last time these two teams played
for a Super Bowl was in 2020, just before the Covid-19
pandemic shutdown everything in March of that year.
Of course, all eyes are not always on football when it
comes to the Super Bowl. The commercials and the halftime
show often steal the eyes of the viewers. The average cost
of a 30-second commercial spot is said to be at 7 million
dollars this year. No wonder everyone wants to watch the
commercials, at that cost they better sell something.
The half-time this year is said to be Usher. There will
be a halftime preshow that will feature Reba Mclntire and
Post Malone. The halftime show is so important to many
that Super Bowl parties tend to end after the halftime show
is over.
Yet, it may not be the game, commercials, or the halftime
show that catches the eyes of viewers this year. There
will be some, particularly teenage girls whose eyes will
be looking to get a glimpse of Travis Kelce’s girlfriend,
also known as Taylor Swift. The pop star’s romance with
Kelce, a superstar for the Chiefs will get a lot of attention
throughout the game.
The shows, the game, the pop stars, and the commercials
provide a show for fans and non-fans of football.
Unfortunately, the game is eclipsed by many by those many
things. Players work all season to arrive at the big game,
only to have fans’ attention diverted by the show. This is
life! God calls us to a heart that is fully devoted to Him.
We are called to love Him with our whole hearts. Yet, it is
the things of the world that divert our attention from God.
The challenge to you this week, while Under the Bleachers,
is to keep your eyes on the main thing, which is God. Let
nothing distract your eyes from Him!
