Local Fire Crews
Remain Vigilant
By Joe Brady, Editor
for
The Times
A spate of structure fires has kept local fire crews on high alert, with the most recent incident occurring last
Monday at 352 Cleveland Avenue. Fortunately, the Millen Fire Department's swift response helped contain
the blaze and prevent injuries, as the residents were not present at the time of the incident.
Firefighters from the Millen Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 12:40 p.m., finding
approximately 60% of the house engulfed in flames upon their arrival. Fire Chief Dwayne Herrington
described the initial situation, stating, "Upon arrival, the fire was burning up the outside wall to the left of
the front porch."
Acting promptly, firefighters focused on extinguishing the exterior flames before assessing the interior.
Upon gaining access to the attic, they discovered a secondary fire inside the home. Chief Herrington revealed
that the origin of the fire is believed to be between the walls near where the initial external blaze was observed.
Despite the intensity of the flames and the challenging conditions, the firefighters managed to control and
extinguish the fire, preventing it from spreading further. The coordinated efforts of the Millen Fire Department
ensured that the property damage was contained to a single residence, sparing neighboring homes from the
destructive force.
Crucially, no injuries were reported in connection with this incident, as the occupants were away when
the fire broke out. Chief Herrington emphasized the importance of fire safety measures. He commended the
professionalism of his team and expressed gratitude for their dedication in protecting the community. Photo
