When Caesar crossed the English Channel from
Gaul and landed on the shore, he knew that the odds
were against his winning the impending battle. After
thinking of the seriousness of the situation, he did a
strange thing.
After he landed on the shore, he had all of his men
get off of the ships and gather around him. He then
ordered all but a few to move forward and not look
back. Then, he ordered the remaining few to stay
with him. At his command, they were to set fire to all
of the ships.
After the first party made their way forward, he
issued the order to set the ships ablaze. When the
ships were blazing, he then gave another command
for the men to turn around and see the burning ships.
The men were stunned as they looked at the burning
vessels. They realized that they were now stranded in
enemy territory and could not retreat to safety. There
was nothing that they could do but advance and fight.
And they did! With every ounce of strength they
possessed, they fought their way forward and won!
When we face overwhelming challenges and difficult
decisions, we must look to God and ask Him a simple
question: What is the best way to advance and win
the battle. He knows what we should do. However,
we must trust in Him, His advice, and His strength to
be victorious.
Prayer: Each day, Lord, we face tasks that are trying
and problems that are perplexing. May we look to
You for Your insight and wisdom as we face life’s
demands. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Scripture For Today: Trust in the Lord with all your
heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you
which path to take. Proverbs 3:5-6
Loving God. Loving Others.

“It’s Not Karma!”
"Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a
person sows, that's what he will reap." - Galatians 6:7
Have you ever heard the terms, or used the terms,
“bad karma” or “good karma”? Karma is an idea in
Buddhism and Hinduism that says whatever you do
will come back to affect you later. For instance, if you
do a good deed, at some point you will be owed good,
or if you treat someone badly, you will receive bad
in the future. This concept of Karma is like a cosmic
boomerang of action.
The Bible addresses this concept - but it’s not Karma!
Galatians 6:7 teaches us God’s law of sowing and
reaping - “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked,
for whatever a person sows, that's what he will
reap.” Sowing means planting and reaping means
harvesting. Put simply, this verse says that your
decisions and actions have consequences. “Mocked”
in this verse means “to sneer at”. We are sorely
deceived if we think we can make bad decisions and
expect God to bless their outcome. We are in fact
sneering at God when we refuse His ways and His
wisdom.
I can’t go out into a field, plant cotton seeds, and
expect apple trees to grow. If I plant cotton seeds,
cotton plants will grow, and they will produce cotton.
In fact not one of us would plant cotton seeds and
expect apple trees to grow! Yet, when it comes to the
actions we sometimes take in our personal lives, we
choose to plant bad seeds and then are shocked when
we harvest bad fruit!
Galatians 6:8 tells us how to plant, “For the one who
sows to his own flesh will reap destruction from the
flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap
eternal life from the spirit.” What does this mean? It
means that you get to choose how you plant during
your lifetime. One choice is that you can live your life
for yourself, to satisfy your own selfish desires - but
in the end you will reap destruction, eternal death in
hell. The other choice is that you can trust in Jesus as
your Savior by repenting of your sins and following
Him as Master, and you will reap eternal life in Him.
The greatest evidence of God's law of solving and reaping
is Romans 10:13 - "Whoever calls on the name of the Lord
will be saved!"
