A Seed From
The Sower
-Michael Guido
Melissa wanted to be a schoolteacher from her
earliest memories. So, it was a dream come true
when she enrolled in college and began to prepare for
a life of teaching. She wanted to be the best teacher
any pupil ever had.
She decided to write to Thomas Carlyle, a world-
famous historian, and ask his advice. She wrote, “Tell
me, sir, what is the secret of successful teaching?”
His reply was simple, “Be what you would have
your pupils to be. All else is unblessed mockery!”
What a reminder for Christians. Though our words
are important, our life - the way we act - is a much
stronger lesson about who Christ is and what He
can do. Our lives are often much more potent than
anything we can ever say. Said Paul to Timothy, “Be
an example to all believers in what you say, in the
way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.”
Timothy was a young pastor and under much
scrutiny. Paul knew the pressure that he faced
and wanted him to be an example to his church in
everything that he said or did. Wisely, Paul advised
him that only those disciples who lived lives imitating
the life of Jesus would be worthy examples and
effective teachers of the Good News.
And, if we read Paul’s words carefully, we will
notice that every aspect of our lives is listed: speech,
behavior, love, faith, as well as pure thinking, and
living.
Prayer: We often forget, Lord, that we are always
Your model for the world to see. May our faith be
strong, our thoughts pure, and our lives modeled
after Your Son. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Scripture For Today: Don’t let anyone think less
of you because you are young. Be an example to all
believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your
love, your faith, and your purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

Big Buckhead Baptist Church, established in 1774,
holds a significant place in Georgia's history, being
the third oldest Baptist church in the state. On
September 11,1787, Pastor James Matthews played
a pivotal role in reconstituting the church, marking
a crucial milestone for both Georgia Baptists and the
field of education.
The church's rich history extends beyond its
religious significance. In 1831, the Georgia Baptists
Convention convened at Big Buckhead Church,
setting the stage for what would later become Mercer
University. This institution has since grown to
become a cornerstone of education in the region.
The Easter Sunrise Service at Big Buckhead Church is
not only a religious gathering but a commemoration
of the historical milestones that have shaped
the community and the broader state of Georgia.
Attendees can expect a meaningful and reflective
experience, steeped in tradition and reverence.
Importantly, this worship service is open to the
public, and there is no admission fee. The organizers
invite everyone in the community to join them for
this special occasion, fostering a sense of unity and
spiritual connection as Easter approaches.
As the sun rises over Big Buckhead Church on March
31, the community will come together to celebrate
Easter, reflect on the church's historical significance,
and bask in the spirit of hope and renewal that this
annual event brings.
Words of
Encouragement

“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take
courage; wait for the Lord!“ - Psalm 27:14
We’re not very good at waiting today because we’re
used to speed and accessibility. My iPhone can
launch the ESPN app in seconds, lightyears ahead of
dial-up in 2000. When I googled "how fast does my
iPhone open apps," all the articles I found were about
how to make it even faster!
Hot Pockets perfectly sums up our obsession with
immediate gratification. Have you ever read the
cooking instructions on a Hot Pocket? It says you can
cook it in the oven for 20 minutes or you can pop it in
the microwave for one minute. Do you know anyone
who cooks Hot Pockets in the oven? Me neither.
Sometimes when we read Bible stories, we don’t
appreciate the time that takes place over the
course of the story. For instance, we can read about
Abraham and Sarah's journey to have their firstborn
son Isaac in just a few chapters of Genesis. Their
story has a beginning (God calls Abraham), a middle
(Abraham and Sarah pray and ask God for a child,
and God promises them a son), and an end (Isaac is
born). We read it and are encouraged about how God
kept His promise. What we don't think about is how
long Abraham and Sarah had to wait. Abraham was
100 years old and Sarah was 90 when she gave birth
to Isaac. That is a lifetime of waiting for a son.
Another example is Joseph's story. Joseph had a
dream as a teenager that God would place him in
a position of authority. What happened after he
had that dream? His brothers sold him into slavery,
he was purchased by an Egyptian official named
Potiphar, he was falsely accused by Potiphar's wife
and thrown into prison, he interpreted the Pharaoh's
cupbearer's dream and asked him to speak well of
him to Pharaoh. The Cupbearer forgot about Joseph
- for two whole years! By the time Pharaoh summons
Joseph and makes him the second highest official
in Egypt, Joseph is in his 30s. Joseph was a slave
and then a prisoner for decades while God worked
out His plans. We are conditioned by our instant
gratification culture and our own desires to say, "I
want it now!" God works in His own timing - for His
glory and our good. We must wait on Him. If you are
waiting on God, don't lose heart. Wait for the Lord;
be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for
the Lord!
