Collingsworth Family takes center stage
By Sam Eades. Publisher
Last week, the Screven County Auditorium
was abuzz with excitement as it played host
to the highly anticipated concert of the year
featuring the renowned Collingsworth Family.
With their expansive family ensemble, three large
buses, and two trailers packed with equipment,
the Collingsworth’s brought their "best of spring
tour" to Sylvania.
The auditorium resonated with the harmonious
voices of the Collingsworth Family and the
enthusiastic applause of over 600 attendees
who gathered for a night of worship and praise.
Among the repertoire of uplifting songs and
captivating stories, several moments stood out as
Betty Fernandez and Kim Collingsworth
highlights of the evening.
One unforgettable moment was Kim
Collingsworth's mesmerizing rendition of "The
Sound of Music Medley" on the
grand piano affectionately named
Lucille. The family's rendition
of "I Call Him Lord" stirred
emotions and brought the house
down, while Mrs. Collingsworth's
performance of the "Hallelujah
Chorus" showcased her
remarkable talent.
However, the pinnacle of the
evening occurred when 8 7-year-
old Betty Fernandez, grandmother
of Pastor Joshua Johnson from
Oak Hill Church, was pleasantly
surprised with an invitation to join
Mrs. Collingsworth on stage to
play the piano. Mrs. Fernandez,
who has been playing piano
since the age of 5 ana serving
as a church pianist since she
was 11, delighted the audience
with an impromptu medley
of hymns alongside her favorite pianist, Kim
Collingsworth.
Reflecting on her memorable performance,
Mrs. Fernandez humorously remarked, "This will
give me something great to add to my resume,
right?" Indeed, her collaboration with Kim, a 14-
time winner of Gospel music's #1 instrumentalist
award, was a testament to the power of music to
unite generations.
The success of the concert was made possible
by the support of dedicated volunteers who
assisted with unloading and loading heavy
equipment. Men from Oak Hill Church of
Millen, First Baptist Church of Sylvania, and
Screven County High School, alongside Kris
The Collingsworth Family
from Screven County High School Maintenance,
contributed their efforts to ensure a seamless
event.
Special thanks were extended to Oak Hill
Church, First Baptist -Sylvania, Sylvania Ford for
providing vehicles for the Collingsworth’s, and
the teams at The Times Newspapers and Spring
Creek Auction for their exemplary support.
Looking ahead, The Times Newspapers is
committed to bringing more gospel groups and
diverse concerts to the Screven Auditorium,
catering to audiences of all ages and interests.
As the community eagerly anticipates future
events, the Collingsworth Family concert will
remain a cherished memory of unity and joy for all who
attended.
