Clerk of Court Warns of
Fraudulent Tax Lien Letters
Jenkins County Clerk of Court, Tracey Herrington, has
issued a stern warning to taxpayers after reports emerged
of fraudulent letters targeting property owners across the
county. The alarming letters claim to reference federal
and state tax liens against recipients, raising concerns
among residents about their financial and legal standing.
The deceptive letters, which vary in wording but share
common threats, have been mailed to numerous property
owners throughout the county. They ominously warn of
potential consequences such as garnishment of wages,
revocation of benefits, suspension of driver's licenses,
and the issuance of levies. “Despite the intimidating language, these letters are nothing more than scams aimed at
exploiting unsuspecting individuals.” Herrington describes.
Tracey Herrington emphasized the importance of vigilance considering these fraudulent activities, “we urge
residents to remain cautious and verify the authenticity of any correspondence they receive regarding tax
matters. It's crucial for residents to be aware of these deceptive tactics and to take appropriate steps to protect
themselves from falling victim to fraud," she stated.
Individuals who suspect they have received one of these fraudulent letters are strongly encouraged to contact
the Jenkins County Tax Commissioner's office or the Clerk of Court office immediately. Prompt reporting of
suspicious activity is essential for authorities to investigate and take necessary action against those perpetrating these
scams.
The prevalence of fraudulent schemes targeting taxpayers underscores the need for continued awareness
and education within the community. By remaining informed and vigilant, residents can safeguard themselves
against falling prey to such deceitful tactics.
In response to the alarming reports, local authorities are working diligently to investigate the source of these
fraudulent letters and apprehend those responsible. Efforts to raise awareness and educate the public about
common scams and fraudulent activities will also be intensified to prevent further incidents in the future.

It was the fall season, and as many times in the
past, my family and I along with my Grandparents,
have gone to the local tent revival in my
Grandparents home town of Cobbham, Georgia. Now,
they didn't happen very often, but on occasion, a tent
would pop up and there would be one of those "old
fashioned tent revivals".
I remember as a child, hearing one hymn by the
name of "the great speckled bird". I wasn't sure at
the time, what it had to do with Jesus or the Bible,
but I knew it had to if we were singing it at a Church
service. So, I just waited and asked my parents after
the revival was over. Of course, they did not give
me too much of an explanation. I think I remember
something about God creating the birds and him
wanting to be a veteranarian or something of that
sort. I really cannot remember it too well.
However, I do remember hearing the hymn several
times after that occasion, and enjoyed the words very
much and leading it during my ministry many times.
I have attached the lyrics for you at the bottom of
the page for you to revisit.
Mainly talking about the Church as a whole, my
favorite verse says, "She is spreading her wings for
a journey, she's going to leave by and by. When the
trumpet shall sound in the morning, she'll rise and
go up in the sky."
"The Great Speckled Bird" is a hymn from the
Southern United States whose lyrics were written by
the Reverend Guy Smith. It is based on Jeremiah
12:9, "Mine heritage is unto me as a speckled bird,
the birds round about are against her; come ye,
assemble all the beasts of the field, come to devour."
It was recorded in 1936 by Roy Acuff.
The lyrics of the song use the speckled bird as a
symbol for the true Church of God. It portrays the
church’s meekness, chosen status, and unwavering
faith in Jesus’ name. The speckled bird represents
the church’s identity, despised and persecuted by
other churches and religious organizations.
This article delves into the symbolism of the great
speckled bird in the Bible, exploring its significance
in the context of church persecution and false
brethren. It explores biblical passages that relate to
God’s chosen people, Israel, and the promise of the
church’s future ascent to meet Jesus in the sky.
l.What a beautiful thought I am thinking
Concerning a great speckled bird
Remember her name is recorded
On the pages of God's Holy Word.
2. All the other birds are flocking 'round her
And she is despised by the squad
But the great speckled bird in the Bible
Is one with the great church of God.

3. All the other churches are against her
They envy her glory and fame
They hate her because she is chosen
And has not denied Jesus' name.
4. Desiring to lower her standard
They watch every move that she makes
They long to find fault with her teachings
But really they find no mistake.
5. She is spreading her wings for a journey
She's going to leave by and by
When the trumpet shall sound in the
morning
She'll rise and go up in the sky.
6. In the presence of all her despisers
With a song never uttered before
She will rise and be gone in a moment
Till the great tribulation is o'er.
7.1 am glad I have learned of her meekness
I am proud that my name is on her book
For I want to be one never fearing
The face of my Savior to look.
8. When He cometh descending from heaven
On the cloud that He writes in His Word
I'll be joyfully carried to meet Him
On the wings of that great speckled bird.
