George T. Bagby
State Park & Lodge
in Fort Gaines
Hey guys! As spring quickly approaches, I want to
start this week by featuring some of my favorite State
g arks. Ifiyou're lookingfor a new boat angling spot,
eorge T. Bagby State Park & Lodge is your place.
There are numerous boat ramps located throughout,
and you can get by with even kayaks or canoes. This
lake nas great Largemouth bass and crappie fishing
opportunities. Area biologists also say catfish and
hybrid fishing can be extremely good throughout the
area. Hybrid schools are located at different areas and
times. I have often caught them by trolling baits until
I find them and then cast or use live bait from there.
And let me say, the surroundings along with the
views are amazing. It is also a great place to take the
family. There is a full-service marina, and a scenic
48,000-acre lake that is home to trophy catches.
Enjoy championship golf at Meadow Links, noted
by Golf Digest on its opening as America's sixth best
new affordable public course.
For families, mere is a nature trail, a private
swimming pool, beach, tennis courts, beach
volleyball, canoe rentals, picnic shelter and more.
The lodge is in the heart of the George T. Bagby
State Park, covering hundreds of acres in Georgia's
relaxing rolling hills. Enjoy classic Southern cooking
in the Pilot House Grille restaurant.
Not to mention, they feature an outdoor pool that
can be an oasis for the entire family.
George T. Bagby State Park offers Military
discounts and is located at 330 Bagby Pkwy.Fort

Five pound dog
named, Pickles,
saves family
from a bear
A dog is the only thing on
Earth that loves you more
than he loves himself."
Never is that sentiment
more obvious than during
a life-or-death emergency.
Time after time, dogs
display loyalty, bravery,
and intelligence in the
face of imminent danger
to protect their family
members.
It’s not about the size of
the dog in the fight, but the
size ofthe fight in the dog.
Pickles was a petite Toy
Poodle that weighed no more than 5 pounds, though
that didn’t stophim from saving his family.
The owner, Tiffany, had let her dogout at 6 AM for
her morning walk like any other day. But on that day,
it wasn’t like any other day. Tiffany left the door open,
as she didn’t see anything dangerous outside.
Within a few seconds, a 200-pound bear came
storming into the house. As Tifrany was screaming
to the kids for them to lock their doors, the bear
jumped on the couch and headed directly for her.
But in that moment, the unlikeliest of all heroes
sprang into action. Pickles came roaring in with his
five-pound frame and began aggressively barking to
get the bear’s attention. Poodles are wicked smart,
and Pickles knew she had to lead the bear out of the
house to save the family. In her final act of courage,
the loyal Pickles diverted the bear outside. Eventually
the bear retreated to the woods.
However, Pickles was hurt badly, as she had been
clawed a few times in her heroic act. The family
rushed her to the animal hospital, though their brave
little dog eventually succumbed to his injuries. The
undersized Poodle made the ultimate sacrifice to
save her family, which just shows how loyal and
loving dogs can be.
Way to go Pickles!!

School Nutrition
Staff Honored
for Dedication
-Joe Brady
celebrated today for their unwavering commitment
and hard work in ensuring students receive
nutritious meals. Led by Dr. John Paul Hearn,
Superintendent, and Allison Dann, School Nutrition
Coordinator, the team was treated to a special event
to mark School Lunch Hero Day.
The event, held on Friday, May 3, was a fitting
tribute to the tireless efforts of these unsung heroes
within the Jenkins County School System. Amidst
a festive atmosphere, the School Nutrition Team
was honored with a delicious Low Country boil
and an array of desserts, courtesy of the school
administration.
What made this celebration even more remarkable
was the thoughtful gesture of the Central Office
Staff, who stepped in to cover the kitchen duties
during serving time. This act of solidarity allowed the
nutrition team to relax and enjoy a couple of hours
of fellowship and food, a rare opportunity amidst
their demanding schedules. Dr. Hearn expressed his
gratitude, emphasizing the vital role the nutrition
staff plays in the well-being of the students. "Our
school nutrition staff is the backbone of our system,
ensuring that our students are nourished ana
ready toTearn every day. Their dedication does not
go unnoticed, and we are immensely grateful for
their hard work," he remarked. Allison Dann, the
School Nutrition Coordinator, echoed Dr. Hearn's
sentiments, highlighting the significance of School
Lunch Hero Day in recognizing the often-overlooked
contributions of cafeteria workers nationwide.
"Today is not just about honoring our team here in
Jenkins County but also shining a spotlight on the
invaluable service provided by school nutrition staff
across the country,"’ she stated.
The event served as a poignant reminder of the
vital role played by school nutrition workers, whose
efforts extend far beyond serving meals. Their
dedication to ensuring students have access to
healthy food is essential for academic success and
overall well-being.
As the School Nutrition staff basked in the
appreciation lavished upon them, it was evident
that their hard work ana commitment had not gone
unnoticed. In celebrating School Lunch Hero Day,
the Jenkins County School System reaffirmed its
commitment to recognizing and honoring those who
dedicate themselves to serving others.
